ESCAFLOWNE Abandoned!

Fox gives up on dumbed down dubbed version of the anime series.

The dubbed version of Escaflowne, the otherworld fantasy anime series, is being pulled from Fox Kids. The tenth episode (Prophecy of Doom) will end the run on 21st October. Some fans criticised Fox's strategy of trying to remake a plot-heavy teenage drama for a much younger target US audience. However, the series is still running in Canada and will soon be airing on Fox's international channels, where it may have better fortune (appropriate for a series where luck is a major plot element!). It seems likely the DVD and 'uncut dub' releases of Escaflowne will be unaffected, though it's not known if Bandai will continue to release the edited Fox version to video.
