The Event: A Message Back

By Stephen Lackey     March 22, 2011

The Event has set a pretty high standard of what to expect from week to week. As low as the ratings are that might be hard to believe but the show has been constantly fast paced ad exciting for many episodes now. Eventually the show had to take a break and this week was just such a break. Now that’s not to say that nothing happened because plenty did happen but most of it was setup for next week. The Event is like a complicated puzzle coming together a little more each week. This week we had to put together the outside edge so the middle could be filled in. Last week Thomas sent a message home and the response he got this week changes not only his plan but the entire conflict between him and his mother. Sophia wants to do right and be good but she has the ability to be cold if she has to and it looks like she will next week. That’s the big problem with this episode though, it all looks like it’ll be really cool in the next episode. Setup is fine but has to be balanced with current action and drama. Work on the edges but go ahead and put a few of those middle pieces in here and there too.

I read a recap on io9 about the most recent episode.  I'm so glad I gave this show up.  So, the guy has "a virus" on his cell phone that will make an address "go viral on the internet" unless he enters a code EVERY TWO HOURS?! Um...what?!  I post stuff on the internet all the time and shit ain't gone viral yet.  Also, Every two hours?  DO YOU EVER SLEEP?  Stupid.  Also, the aliens' sun is going supernova, and it's going to take weeks (I forget) for the radiation to hit their planet?  Is their planet in a different solar system than their sun?  It takes 8 minutes for light from our sun to hit the earth.
