Will Evil Dead (2013) get a sequel?

After hearing/ reading Evil Dead (2013) director Fede Alvarez’s tweet about Sam Raimi returning to the franchise (read story here), one would think he was part of the family now. Apparently not. In a recent interview with Gorosito TV, Alvarez revealed that Evil Dead 2 isn’t going to happen.

“Look, I am sorry to tell you this but that movie won’t happen,” he tells the site before dropping the bomb. “Evil Dead 2 is not going to happen, at least not with us involved. We left that project many months ago because we preferred to put our energies on other things.

“I don’t know if the producers still have intentions of making it. But what I can tell you is that we are not part of that project.”

So Alvarez is out. Does that mean a sequel isn’t going to happen? Probably not, but it will probably delay it for a while.

Sound off below Maniacs. Did you like Alvarez take on the Evil Dead story? Are you more excited for Raimi’s return with Army of Darkness 2? As we all know by now, the Evil Dead franchise never really dies. We just have to remain patient.

I for one am glad he's out.  That Evil Dead remake was horrendous.

Still not sure how I feel about Raimi doing Army of Darkness 2.  The geek inside me is squealling with glee, but he's also the guy along with Tapert and Campbell who said they loved what Alvarez did with the remake.  That has been rather concerned.

Evil Dead was awesome so I hope we get part 2.

I thought it was pretty overrated, not nearly as scary as some would claim and nowhere near as fun as the original series ended up being.  Yay for Army of darkness 2, nay for a sequel to a reboot of a reboot.
