Excel Saga Vol. #6

By Barrett Williams     June 20, 2003
Release Date: April 08, 2003

The Review!
While I enjoyed the other volumes of Excel a great deal, this will go down as the one volume I simply did not care for. It just didn't strike me as being that funny or interesting.

Video: As with all the other volumes, crystal clear. There are some compression artifacts here and there, but otherwise a very good transfer.

Audio: For this release, I listened to the English Language track. Dialogue came out clear through the front speakers, and there were a few surprises coming out of the back. Though both tracks are just 2.0, they sounded very good.

Content: This is where the volume just fell flat for me. First off, I really disliked the Puchuu-Matsumoto episode. It's probably just because I'm not a big fan of any of Matsumoto's work, but as it stands I found this episode unfunny and boring. The next two episodes, 23 and 24, about put me to sleep. Excel with plot? WHAT IS THIS?! I didn't start watching this show for the plot, and I didn't plan on it finishing that way either. Though I will admit, I found everything to wrap up nicely in episode 25. Episode 26, to be sure, is utter insanity. THIS is the Excel I've come to know and love. It saves this volume from being too drab.

Save for episode 26, this was NOT a good volume to end the series on. It definitely left a sour taste in my mouth for not wanting to go watch a marathon binge of all the other episodes. If you found yourself thinking, "Man, this show would be AWESOME with plot", then by all means this volume is for you. But as you could probably guess, it's EXCEL plot, not GOOD plot.
