SPIDER-MAN's Flash Thompson, Kid Connors Cast

The Wrap is reporting that actor Chris Zylka is now confirmed to be among the cast of Marc Webb's currently lensing Spider-Man reboot. A relative newcomer with only a few film credits under his belt, Zylka will play Peter Parker's high-school nemesis Flash Thompson.

The bullying jock was played in the previous series by True Blood actor Joe Manganiello. In the comics Thompson proves a foil for Parker throughout his high-school days, but the pair become friends in adulthood.

In other casting news, Superhero Hype reports that actor Miles Elliot has been cast in the role of Billy Connors in the movie. This is perhaps the first compelling confirmation that actor Rhys Ifans will be playing Dr. Curt Connors (aka The Lizard) in the film. That's a point that's been widely rumored for months, but never before confirmed with credible sources.

Cameras are rolling on the film right now, with the 3D picture due in theaters July 3, 2012.

X-MEN: FIRST CLASS - Secret History? Armageddon?

20th Century Fox has released an official synopsis for their X-Men First Class (no colon required) movie. The film is underway under the direction of Matthew Vaughn. Here's the summary:

X-Men First Class charts the epic beginning of the X-Men saga, and reveals a secret history of famous global events. Before mutants had revealed themselves to the world, and before Charles Xavier and Erik Lensherr took the names Professor X and Magneto, they were two young men discovering their powers for the first time. Not archenemies, they were instead at first the closest of friends, working together with other Mutants (some familiar, some new), to stop Armageddon. In the process, a grave rift between them opened, which began the eternal war between Magneto's Brotherhood and Professor X's X-Men.

Some of that was known to us, but we're intrigued by the "secret history of famous global events" part. It kind of keys off the depiction of the Three Mile Island crisis as seen in X-Men Origins: Wolverine. We're also wondering about this "Armageddon" with a capital A. There is an obscure X-villain by that name.

The film is slated for a June 3, 2011 screen date.

GREEN HORNET Officially Sucks

Any sense of good will, optimism and open-mindedness this column has had with regards to Seth Rogen's Green Hornet movie is now gone, thanks to this sucktastic Carl's Jr. TV commercial.

Exclusive: DREDD Set Photos

A faithful Maniac from Cape Town, one Mhalakai, has sent in these cool photos from the set of Dredd, along with this account of what he's seen of the production so far:

During the day noting is happening on set, they are shooting at night. We went to have a look and took these pictures. A colleague of mine told how his daughter is a stand-in in the movie and he described how he watched them shoot Dredd walking to a closed-off area to look at some bloody bodies. Wish he could have take a picture, but it was not allowed.

Hope these pictures get you as exited as I am about the movie.

We are! We especially like the shot of the grafitti on the wall, as well as the food stand showing what culinary delights are available to the citizens of Mega City One.

Very cool pictures.  I can't wait for a trailer for Dredd.

GH - I thought it sucked from the 1st trailer.  lol

I hope Barbraella will be rated R.  :-)

Thor - Don't know about the costume but at least they got the actor to bulk up to superhuman size - something I've been waiting for Hollywood to do with these comic adaptations for years. I'm tired of fake muscles...

Dredd - I'm going to have to wait for the trailer but so far I'm a little worried. I read the comics and the city looks nothing like the pics and the other shots of 21st century vehicles..? This does not look like the futuristic setting of Judge Dredd at all.

I hope they do an adaptation of Rogue Trooper someday... That was a kick ass comic and would be an ever kick-asser movie.

Spiderman: we will see still up in the air on that one

Xmen first class, I think it is going to suck, hope im wrong but, it still sounds like they still have too many toys in the sandbox, and that  didnt work for Wolverine or Last Stand and Im pretty sure its not going to work here.

The Flash : eager to hear more

Thor: Where is the Trailer, we want the trailer

Dredd: wow cool set shots, the set shots and the giant robot looked cool in the first one too , it didnt make it any better than it was

I'm not worried about Green Hornet.  All the trailers and hype for it is filled with comedy, but I'm sure the movie is all action.  "We will position this movie as if it is a comedy.....that way no one will suspect it's really an action flick..."  Think about it.

Spider-Man and X-Men seem to be going in the right direction.  I'm keeping a very open mind to both of them.  Thor will be fine.  Judge Dredd, too.  I didn't really hate the Stallone("I am the law!") one, so I'm sure this one will make me happy.

Hey "Mania"-quick question: Did you throw in the towel for the Burton Batman films when you saw the Batman Onstar commercials? Way to show your true dipsh!t fanboy colors, you whiney puss!es. I have struggled to enjoy this site ever since its Comics2Film demise. This website has entered the same shit realm as Ain't It Cool News, I'm over it. Its a shame, because I love me some comic books and comic book films-but I don't think I can read another smug "editorial" on this sh!tty website. Good Day and F*ck Off.

X-Men- I love "true stories" of historical events. (Probably why I like the TF3 trailer...)

Flash- This seems odd to say so I'm sure I'm wrong but Flash has the most well known Rogue's Gallery in te DCU after Batman's. (The TV show probably has something to do with that...) but really doesn't seem to have a Joker, Luthor, Sinestro-type arch nemesis.  Trickster appeared the most times in the live action show but Grodd appeared the most times on JLU.  Who do you work up to?

Spider-man-It's looking good for the Lizard. So him and Proto-Goblin or the latter in the sequel? Meaning Green Goblin in the third?

  • Rather harsh words toward the Green Hornet movie.  Perhaps a "Check out the Green Hornet Carl's Jr. commercial.  Let us know what you think" would have been more appropriate.
  • For a comic book character I could care less about, "Thor" looks like it has potential.
  • I hope Spiderman is good!
  • I'm trying to keep faith in Matthew Vaughn!  I think anything he does is good.
  • I liked the Sylvester Stallone "Judge Dredd," so hopefully the new movie will at least be as good as it was.
  • I don't see any hope for "Barbarella."

Seth Rogen looks like a fat Green Hornet.  I can't stand the guy and I still can't.

I'm still hoping for X-Men and Spiderman to be good....hoping...

Thor looks pretty good.  Can't wait for this movie.

Darkknight2280 12/10/2010 11:34:32 AM

Dredd looks cool..but i like how Mega City one looked in the original Dredd movie and i also like the shoulder armor better. Thats about the only two good points about that movie. However it is a guilty pleasure..cause i do enjoy the movie for the most part..but i know its bad..lol

krathwardroid 12/10/2010 11:37:11 AM

Judge Dredd. That's all. I love the pictures. Looking forward to this a lot.
