One of the casualties of the format war this year was the release of Freedom from Bandai Visual USA. The company was one of the last ones to fold shop on the format and had promised to release the final volume in the late summer. That never happened and the only HD DVD exclusive release they had was incomplete. Now, under the Honneamise label of Bandai Entertainment, they're bringing the series back out in a way that's certainly getting attention. All seven high quality OVAs are being released in a single Blu-ray boxset on November 11th, 2008 in the US. The release is identical to what's being put out across the world as both Japan and Europe are getting the same thing. In order to please multiple regions, Honneamise has gone and put together a solid release. The original HD DVD release contained a Dolby Digital+ Japanese 5.1 language track and a Japanese 2.0 PCM track as well. This new worldwide Blu-ray release ups the audio department significantly by producing three Dolby TrueHD 5.1 tracks. Whereas we only had the original Japanese before, and not a lossless 5.1 track, we now get lossless Japanese, English and French audio.
We've got a first look at the box set that's come in, so click the image on the left and take a gander at what Japan, Europe and US fans of Freedom will have in just a few short weeks.
