Exodus : Gods and Kings arrives 12-12-2014

We have our first trailer for Ridley Scott’s Exodus : Gods and Kings. Does Scott know how to do a small film?

Synopsis: From acclaimed director Ridley Scott (Gladiator, Prometheus) comes the epic adventure “Exodus: Gods and Kings,” the story of one man’s daring courage to take on the might of an empire. Using state of the art visual effects and 3D immersion, Scott brings new life to the story of the defiant leader Moses (Christian Bale) as he rises up against the Egyptian Pharaoh Ramses (Joel Edgerton), setting 600,000 slaves on a monumental journey of escape from Egypt and its terrifying cycle of deadly plagues.

Exodus : Gods and Kings features Christian Bale, Joel Edgerton, Aaron Paul, John Turturro, Sigourney Weaver and Ben Kingsley.

Exodus : Gods and Kings arrives December 12th, 2014.

So what's the deal with these epic biblical movies?  I just saw something about RS doing a David movie too.  Did I miss something about religion being at the height of its popularity and not actually dieing a slow death or something?

Was moses supposed to be in there somewhere?

Can we all be civilized and not turn this into another Christianity vs Aetheists debate again pls? As much as Mania would love that... haha ; )

This is a great teaser. It hints at big spectacle to come with that parted Red Sea coming at the lone horse.

Why are there so few darker skinned, middle eastern, African  actors in the cast?

Violator, since this movie involves the ancient Israelite version of the story Sargon, it would be a Judaism versus Atheist debate. But from an archeological and historical perspective, I'll settle this silliness before it ever gets started.

  • Ramses II never had an adopted brother named Moses
  • Skilled migrant artisans, not Jewish slaves, build the pyramids and temples over several decades and at many other locations along the Nile.
  • There are absolutely zero artifacts that show the Israelites were ever held in captivity in Egypt, nor were they ever enslaved en mass.

That said, this movie looks freaking epic!!! I like the bible and am eager to see Scott's take on this story. The Torah, or Old Testament has much better versions of ancient mythological stories and is also a decent reference guide for reinforcing good morals (just skip over some of the arcane directives) The Bible makes for good cinema too, and has inspired some great works. Ben Hur, Quo Vadis, The Ten Commandments, The Passion, Exorcist, Omen, Life of Brian...

Violatorr I had no religious debate in mind...just wondering if there was something I missed that would have sparked this recent surge of biblical movies!  It just seems odd that they'd come in bunches.

Monkey, I agree... More southern and western Mediterranean and some Nubian peoples would look more authentic, but since there was no photography back then and Renaissance oil painting was quite a few centuries away, modern film makers just guess and usually give the performers dark eye makeup lashes, brows, and a really good olive tan when trying to depict ancient Egyptians.

I personally enjoy a spirited debate and don't see anything uncivilized about it.

As for this movie...meh

Good guys vs. Bad guys with lots of high priced special effects (like one of these movies doesn't come out every two weeks).

SPOILER ALERT         the good guys win.
