Expect INDIANA JONES Trailer in Feb.

There's also planned releases for new trailers of STAR TREK and DARK KNIGHT. A scoopster has sent Comingsoon a tip stating that the first trailer for INDIANA JONES AND THE KINGDOM OF THE CRYSTAL SKULL is currently planned for February 2008. This information seems to fit with one industry source of mine that also states the same knowledge. Nearly all of George's SW films initially released their trailers in February of that film's year and Spielberg seems to use the same marketing for a lot of his films. The tipster above says that this isn't a definite..It could also be released before the Superbowl (the NFL Championship Game) or even during the Superbowl.

I said a few days ago that the next two major Paramount films are Sweeney Todd (Dec. 21, 2007) and Cloverfield (Jan. 18, 2008). Well, the third major release is The Spiderwick Chronicles, which hits theaters in February. This tip seems to indicate that film for the first trailer of the next Indy adventure.

Next piece of information is the first teaser trailer for STAR TREK, another Paramount distribution. There have been reports that the studio wanted a teaser trailer made sooner rather than later in the 2008 year. Those reports were not lying, given the scoop. Paramount now plans to unleash the first teaser trailer for this film attached to Cloverfield on January 18, 2008.

Last bit of information pertains to THE DARK KNIGHT and is pretty much just a confirmation to something we already knew. Ever since Comic Con San Diego, reports and quotes have indicated that something relating to the film was happening in December. Last month's announcement of an 7-minute Joker prologue attached to the IMAX edition of WB's I Am Legend seemed to confirm those reports. It's now reported that a new trailer will also be attached to the standard theatrical version of I Am Legend as well. So, the choice is yours, Maniacs. You can go watch the trailer attached to the standard version or you can opt for the 7-minute prologue attached to the IMAX version. Either way, I'm sure both versions will be released online later in the month.

INDIANA JONES AND THE KINGDOM OF THE CRYSTAL SKULL opens in theaters May 22, 2008.

THE DARK KNIGHT hits theaters July 18, 2008.

STAR TREK hits theaters Christmas Day 2008.

Man I hope the IMAX near me plays I Am Legend cause I want to watch the 5 minute Joker stuff from the Dark Knight. The IMAX near where I live didn't show Beowulf although I still got to see it in 3D on a regular theater. This worries me that they might not show I Am Legend. I 'd rather shell out $$ for that since the trailer will probably be online fairly soon after the movie opens, don't know that the Joker stuff will unless someone records it.

I don't know if I'm going to be able to make it to Legend on IMAX, so I'm hoping it will show up on the net shortly after appearing in the theaters.

Wow. I know that a movie like Indiana Jones doesn't need a lot of promotion, but it seems kind of strange in this day and age to air your first trailer only three months before your movie is released.

It actually may be a great move--give people just enough time to get excited, but not time to get bored.

I'm happy the Joker prologue is no longer an I-max exclusive. Afterall the vast majority of viewers are going to see this in standard theater screens and is where they will make most of their money, so there wasn't any need to punish the fans. At least until the day when I-max screens become a more regular part of the landscape.

Wiseguy,

The Joker prologue isn't attached to the I Am Legend playing on standard theaters, it's just for IMAX.
There will be a new trailer attached to the movie in standard theaters but the prologue is just for IMAX.
At least that's what I understood from the article.

In regards to Indy taking the same strategy as SW. Not true. All of the prequels had a teaser trailer sometime in October/November of the previous year. If I recall correctly Phantom Menace had a teaser attatched to Wing Commander (uggh), Attack of the Clones was attatched to Monsters Inc (and later Harry Potter) and Revenge of the Sith debuted in November of 04 (with the Incredibles I think). So this is a bit off. Especially since earlier indications were that there would be a teaser in November or December. Oh well. Hope it is worth waiting for.

Thanks, Hanso. That's what happens when I rush through the article.
I still wish they would see it my way.

So what are the odds that the IMAX prologue eventually hits the web? 100%?...50%...0%?

I'd say 100% a bootleg version shows up on the internet, the thing is the quality

endgambit,

TPM teaser may have been with Wing Commander, but it was definitely shown with Meet Joe Black... it was a bit of a sensation because people were buying tickets to MJB and then leaving after they saw the teaser for TPM, artifically raising MJBs box office: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meet_Joe_Black

As for the IJ4 teaser... I remember reading Lucas planned for a release around Thanksgiving 2007?! Which would be consistent with the releases for all of the SW prequel teasers. So much for that plan I guess.
