Maniac Wiseguy has passed along an interesting new tidbit on Sylvester Stallone's The Expendables. While the movie will bring back a lot of 80's action stars and will likely feature numerous explosions contributing to a high body count, UGO reports that producer Avi Lerner has revealed that Lionsgate and Millennium Films will test out a PG-13 version for screening audiences.

The revelation came from the producer when asked about the hard violence we saw in Stallone's fourth installment of Rambo and whether we will see that same type of violence in the rumored Rambo V

It should be noted that there will also be a hard R-rated cut for The Expendables and it too will be tested as well. With today's DVD release market, having two separate versions is nothing new for moviegoers. The question remains on which version will be released in theaters though. The PG-13 version or the hard R cut?

The action adventure will star Stallone, Terry Crews, Randy Couture, Eric Roberts, Mickey Rourke, Jet Li, Jason Statham, Dolph Lundgren, Charisma Carpenter, Giselle Itie, Brittany Murphy, David Zayas and Amin Joseph. Stallone is directing the film based on a script he penned.

The Expendables will hit theaters April 23, 2010.

It's a Stallone movie it has to be R.

After Rambo, if they go PG-13, that would be totally weak. I understand why they would go PG-13, it will make more money, as it opens up a wider audience, but If anything, keep the unrated or Hard-R rating for blu-ray.

After Rambo, I'm surprised that they let Stallone direct another movie.

violator14 6/20/2009 3:56:44 PM

Ya we all know why they would go rated R or why they would go PG-13. It's just a matter of opinion now. the Violator of course, and I believe like 90% of the maniacs will want the Hard R version!!!! HARD R!!HARD R!!HARD R!!HARD R!!HARD R!!HARD R!!HARD R!!HARD R!!HARD R!!HARD R!!

I have been a fan of the "R" rating but truth be told I just want them to tell the story and figure out the ratings later. I hate when they dumb down a movie that should a been "R" because they think it will make more money that way.   Die Hard 4 is a good example or Salvation for a more current one.  It's very easy to notice it.

PG 13 always makes more money! At least there is an R cut for the DVD! Eh screw it! WOLVERINES!

almostunbiased 6/20/2009 7:03:14 PM

NotAFan said what was on my mind.  Well the first part anyway.  The last part was about Red Dawn or something???

SgtTechCom 6/20/2009 8:26:32 PM

This movie will be great regardless as long as there will be a R version available. I mean just look at the dam cast. It's like Predator with a all star lineup of badass dudes.

I can't wait for this.

They should try something new and release both versions in theatres and let the movie goers decides.

I agree with MrJaw...They are going to have it on 2 or 3 different projectors if not more in the big theaters so release with both ratings and let the chips fall where they may...It will be a good experiment for the studio anyways to see if something like this can  work out...
