Lionsgate has announced (via Twitter) a release schedule shift for Sylvester Stallone's next action flick, The Expendables. The studio has taken Sly's merc adventure out of its original April bow and pushed it back four months to August 20, 2010. The new date has the film debuting alone for that weekend, with Screen Gems' Priest scheduled a week earlier on August 13th.

The move coincides with Lionsgate's decision to distribute their comic adaptation, Kick-Ass, on April 16, 2010. The Matthew Vaughn-directed film is now scheduled to face off against Piranha 3D, MacGruber and Death at a Funeral.

"Expendables" stars Sylvester Stallone, Terry Crews, Randy Couture, Eric Roberts, Mickey Rourke, Jet Li, Jason Statham, Dolph Lundgren, Charisma Carpenter, Giselle Itie, Brittany Murphy, David Zayas and Amin Joseph. Sly directed from a story he wrote.

Plot Concept: The story follows a team of mercenaries on a mission to overthrow a South American dictator.

No problem, gives him more time to tweak things right really.  But I guess they realize it won't do good against summer films?  I know I am there.

This movie is going to be a blast. Moving it to late August won't hurt it at all. Great cast and I can't wait to see Charisma Carpenter on the big screen.

Bummed I have to wait to see this epic return to '80s greatness, but it's not a big deal.  I'm gonna see this opening day for sure.

That's a smart move. Both Kick Ass and this will be reaching for similar audience and given Kick Ass being fresh in everyone's minds they'd get the lion share of it.

Then take into account that this Aug. and the Basterds for example who did farely well and it makes sense. Usually Aug. is practically dead but this summer probably changed some minds

I'll be seeing this opening day as well

Smart move all the way around.  Did not realize Charisma Carpenter was in this movie........I think I need a moment to myself.

Apparently they think that Kickass will be the money maker of the two but I disagree! I think it will suffer from Watchmenitis! A bunch of people will see it initially thinking it is gonna be just like SPider-man and then will say "What is this shit?" and then the boxoffice will drop 90% the second week making it a failure! But the budget is alot smaller so maybe it won't matter! Anyway everyone see Expendables as it is the first step in the road to finally getting Tango & Cash part 2!

I really didnt think this movie would have such a positive following, i am glad i was wrong and am not the only one looking forward to it. bring back the 80's greatness, all that is missing is Mr.T and his gold chains. He would be the cherry on this 80's icon icecream sunday.

I for one can't wait for this to come out. With a cast of bad asses and Carpenter to boot you can't go wrong. As has been said all they need to do is add a cameo by Chuck Noris along with Willis & Schwartzineggers and you have testosterone gold.
