The explosions continue for director Joss Whedon and Marvel's The Avengers production team out on the East Ninth Street set in Cleveland, which is doubling for 42nd Street in NYC. And some more photos and a video have popped up online recording the action. Check out the photos, including one with Chris Evans, by clicking on the image above and watch the video down below.

Marvel's superhero team effort will star Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans, Jeremy Renner, Mark Ruffalo, Scarlett Johansson, Clark Gregg, Samuel L. Jackson, Cobie Smulders, Tom Hiddleston, Stellan Skarsgård and Amanda Righetti. Whedon is directing from a screenplay he wrote.

Plot Concept: Continuing the epic big-screen adventures started in "Iron Man," "The Incredible Hulk," "Iron Man 2," "Thor," and "Captain America: The First Avenger," "Marvel's The Avengers" is the super hero team up of a lifetime. When an unexpected enemy emerges that threatens global safety and security, Nick Fury, director of the international peacekeeping agency known as S.H.I.E.L.D., finds himself in need of a team to pull the world back from the brink of disaster.

Marvel's The Avengers will strike theaters May 4, 2012.

Now those extras are really giving it their all, unlike the extras in that other film where they were fake fighting worse than my nephew :)

Can't freaking wait for this. AVENGERS baby. That's about as epic as it gets with superhero flicks

Not even going to look at the video. I stopped looking at the Dark Knight videos, too. I don't want to know anything ahead of time.

the fan cam stuff shot for that "other" film looks much more exciting than this. Still looking forward to Avengers but Dark Knight Rises is going to kick ass. Just sayin'.

Jarrod fire your proofreader.

Massive downtown chaos. I love it!

This sure looks better than that Aliens ship flying around Pittsburgh.

Avengers Assemble!

I hear that there is more to come. Becasue of the rain here they couldn't get all the scenes they wanted filmed. Plus there are some scenes to be filmed in some of the buildings you see in this video.

And yes Marvel is doing it right, those people who waited 5 hours in line to be extras for the movie are making the most of it, unlike those extras in PA.

I still don't get the plane in DKR - does the Tumbler become a plane now?

Why do I get the feeling that, by next spring, the nations fanboys will be divided in two gangs over the bats/avengers issue.  C'mon, it'll be rad, just like Westside Story!  Get your Jazzdance shoes ready!

LOL @reek.  I'm hoping both movies will be good no matter who is directing and I'm going to put aside that I didn't like TDK.  Here's hoping for a great 2012 summer of movies.

I'm with you monkeyfoot.  The less I know about the film the better.  I think we got a lot of insight just off the ending of Thor and the fact that Loki was featured at the end of Captain America (riding a motorcycle no less...out of context that kind of made me laugh.)  Plus, to be honest, the videos from TDKR are kind of boring.  A lot less was revealed in the previous film and I loved the online teasers of the Joker.  This one just shows you the villian Bane (who looks underwhelming.)  And, Hathaway on a motorcycle (which was laughable.)  These scenes out of context just don't do it for me.  I'm happy to wait until 2012.

My guess is that Loki takes possession of the Cosmic Cube.  We saw the Red Skull opening up the universe with it.  If there are aliens, they will be brought to earth by Loki, who wants to destroy it because he is still pissed that he is really an ice giant and not a god.  Which is  odd motivation if you think about it.

My question, at the end of the Hulk, we see Banner gaining control of the Hulk.  Being able to control his transformation and, I assume, brining some intelligence to the beast.  Hope they stick with that.  I gave up reading the comic after PAD left and I believe that was his idea for the character.

Now, unlike others on here, I'm not a Whedon fan.  I find his characters a little cardboard and his stories a tad silly and surface (I tried, but never could embrace Buffy and Firefly.)  That said, hopefully, the great cast will bring a lot to the table and they are already familair with the characters.  And, I assume Marvel is keeping a very, very close eye on this production and have a lot of say.  Keeping my fingers cross for this film.  It could be a groundbreaker.

The family and I are planning to ride up to Cleveland later this week to check some of the filming out.  My wife's originally from LA so she is used to it but the kids and I are noobs.
