Being a huge Dead Space fan I'm looking forward to this next installment though I hope it's not too much of a carbon copy of the original

It seems that Electronic Arts' next installment Dead Space: Extraction is not a follow-up to the original title but instead a prequel. In an interview with GameTrailersTV, EA Redwood Shores vice president Glen Schofield told the website that that Extraction takes place approximately three weeks before the original Dead Space, with gamers starting out on a planet before moving onto a pre-Necromorph Ishimura.
The game is expected to end where Dead Space began so don't expect a happy ending for your character. As for gameplay, the gamer can expect to have the flamethrower back along with a "couple of different pistols." Schofield declined to elaborate further on what else to expect in the forthcoming prequel.

So the game will basically take place during the events of the animated movie. Im assuming that means we'll be playing as the female leader of the ishimura's security team.
