Fans of DC Comics/Vertigo's long-running and critically-acclaimed comic 'Fables' may see the concept return as a TV series on ABC. The Hollywood Reporter reveals that the alphabet net has commissioned a pilot based on the comics.

The series, created by Bill Willingham features fairy tale and fantasy characters in exile in present-day New York City. It won multiple Eisner awards and spawned a spinoff series 'Jack of Fables'. Both books are presently ongoing.

Stu Zicherman and Raven Metzner are writing the script for the pilot for Warner Bros. TV. The pair are best known for the short-lived series 'Six Degrees'. They also wrote a draft of Marvel's 'Deathlok' movie. They'll serve as executive producers on 'Fables' as well.

David Semel is directing the pilot.

Thanks to Antonello Blueberry for the submission.

What do you think FABLES fans? Should ABC make a TV series of this comic? Who would you cast as Bigby and Snow? Post your comments below...

This is awesome news.  Fables is better served as a series instead of a movie.  I just wish it was HBO instead of ABC, but I hope this gets made and done well.

This is great news if it goes all the way, but is ABC ready for it?

Bout time ABC got it's own X-Files, Fringe, Heroes, Buffy, Terminator, Lost, etc.  I was always wondering why it never had a genre show as large as any ot the others.  They might have and I could just be forgetful but I can't think of any.  That did well at least.  I'm think maybe V was on that channel but I forget and don't think so. Even if it was that was a long time ago.  Here's hoping that it's done well and becomes a hit. I've only looked through a graphic novel of this Fables here and never read it but it seems intriuging, just nothing I could afford to buy at the time.  Or now.

This idea is so great I'm almost screaming. I wish I'd thought of it. I wonder if the tone will be light and romantic like the sadly cancelled Pushing Daisies or in a more serious tone?

Gotta pick up the comic to see how it is.

Never read Fables but it looks interesting.

MrJaw... just to let you know that ABC does have Lost which I would say is the biggest genre show on your list.

Butch...Oh, thought it was on NBC.  I never watch it.  Not because I think it sucks but because I'm so far behind I don't have the patience to catch up.  Alas, maybe one day I'll use my Netflix for the power of Lost Good.

great series, it has it all.   dark comedy, drama, action and romance. it will make for a great series show.  i just hope it keeps it adult themes and doesnt try to come off as childeren fairy tales, because the series can get quite R rated.

This definitely would've worked better in HBO if they wanted to stay true to the series. I guess it can still work on ABC but I fear that they'll water it down too much. Still pretty happy to see the best Vertigo book get this treatment. Maybe they'll have Jack on HBO

Yes! A Fables TV show would be literally epic. Not sure how they could pull it off, but wow, the potential is huge. The concept, characters, and epic story in the comic is huge. Fables is one of the best yet untapped properties to be adapted. This is very nice news.  Plus the series, and its Jack spin off, are still doing fantastic.
