With Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull opening up in theaters today, we thought it would be cool to pass along this extra tidbit on the central plot device (see title) of the fourth adventure. After all, we all have a little "Indy" within us all, right? Well, as a Discovery channel junkie, I know I do...
Our friends over at Archaeology.org have done some research behind the Crystal Skull phenomenon and they featured it in their latest magazine which you can pick up at your local stores. You can also check out all the details (and more) at their website by clicking here. They also give details on other Indy-related facts within the films.
As an example, I remember catching a special just recently on how famed archaeologists around the time of WWII were covert operatives for many government agencies while seeking their treasures in exotic locations like South America. Any you of you fellow Maniacs catch that same documentary? The picture on the left is the Crystal Skull that was sent to the Smithsonian in 92 so there is a bit of mythology and legend behind this latest MacGuffin.
