Even King moved in a slightly different direction with this one, staying away from straight-up horror for one of the first times in its career.

I am not sure that I agree with this.  Would you call The Stand horror?  It has a lot of similarities to the Dead Zone in terms of the themes that it explored.

Beautiful write-up Rob, I fucking love this movie, and it ranks alongside The Prophecy (I & III) and King of New York as being my favourite Walken role. Such a haunting, powerful and tragic movie. Brilliant.

Got to agree here, this is a great movie. Everytime it comes on I watch it 'til the end or at least DVR it for later. Funny enough, the only other KIng movie i can do that with is completely on the other end of the stylistic spectrum and that's Maximum Overdrive.
