FANTASIA 2000 Sets Record for Imax Attendance

STUART LITTLE may have reclaimed the number one position at the box office, but the big winner in the long run may turn out to be Disney. Their limited release release of FANTASIA 2000, which made its January 1 debut on 54 Imax screens in the U.S. (75 worldwide), earned $2.24-million domestically for a whopping per screen average of $41,481. That weekend figure surpasses the record weekly total for any previous Imax release. The film will continue exclusively at Imax Theatres until April 30, before moving into wide release in general theatres.

In other box office news, Disney's TOY STORY 2 passed the $200-million mark in the U.S. Despite weekend estimates to the contrary, the film took the #3 position, edging out Warner Bros.' THE GREEN MILE. Box office figures for this weekend's genre films are given below, followed by totals to date, in millions of dollars:
