The Hollywood Reporter has broken the news that Michael Fassbender (X-Men: First Class) has left the Natalie Portman western, Jane Got a Gun. The once and future Magneto will be replaced by Jude Law (Gattaca) as the villain. The changes don’t stop there as Joel Edgerton (Zero Dark Thirty) will now play the hero.

The Plot:Gun centers on a woman whose outlaw husband returns home riddled with bullet wounds and barely alive. When her husband’s gang eventually tracks him down to finish the job, she is forced to reach out to an ex-lover and ask if he will help defend her farm”.

The move by Fassbender comes due to Jane Got a Gun’s constant scheduling problems and Fassbender is committed to X-Men: Days of Future Past.

Jane Got a Gun will be directed by Lynne Ramsay (We Need to Talk About Kevin) and written by Brian Duffield.

Jane Got a Gun is slated for a 2014 release.

Interesting premise.

Quick Question: Is the "hero" Edgerton is playing the bullet-riddled husband or the ex-lover? Because honestly, it sounds like Portman's character is the hero.

I heard Fassbender's leaving of Jane Got a Gun was tied to his signing for the starring role in the smash-hit Broadway production of Dude Looks Like a Lady...

Fasbender can do much better than that..
