While 20th Century Fox and Marvel Studios continue to remain silent on the prospects of seeing an X-Men: First Class sequel anytime soon, stars from the film continue to feel confident on production eventually taking off under the guiding light of director Matthew Vaughn. One of those outspoken stars is Michael Fassbender, the latest man to don the Magneto mask. While promoting his latest flick Haywire to the IFC, the actor once again talked about the character and hopes that in the next installment, Erik Lehnsherr won't be a full-fledged villain.
“You know what’s interesting about Magneto and Professor X from the comic books as well, is there’s such a complexity to their relationship," he explained. “It’s not just like clear-cut enemies; they’re best friends as well. In the comic books, even after they’ve had this sort of rift, Professor X asks Magneto to come back and look after the students at certain points... I think there’s always that complexity in their relationship and we want to keep that alive as possible, because that’s I think a really interesting thing - the conflict there.”
It seemed the line between heroes and villains were being drawn quite clearly towards the end of the first installment but Fassbender holds out hope that friendship factor remains in the sequel. The last official word out of Fox on bringing the next X-Men adventure together was studio chief Tom Rothman telling the press in November that he hoped Vaughn would once again be at the helm and they were working hard on scripting out another strong story.

As much as I liked his performance, I'd like him in as a background or cameo villian. The X-men isn't all about Magneto, I know the bad guy in first class was Seb Shaw but the story was mainly about Eric. I just feel a scenario coming like where everybody got fed up with Wolverine.
I'd like to see the Savage Land or even a stab at Genosha. I'll never be completely happy but that would bring me some joy
Yeah, and as a life-long Logan fan I think making Wolverine the focus of the original movies was a biiiig mistake, he shouldn't have even been in the first one, unless as a 'First Class' style cameo somewhere near the end...
I would like to see his hair go white in the sequel and the birth of Wanda and Pietro Maximoff would be good too!
I still think they should have rebooted X-Men as a TV series set within the Marvel Studio's 'Movieverse', there is just too much continuity for a handful of movies...
That way you could have Scarlet Witch, Beast and maybe the recast Wolverine in the next Avengers movie, but this is a LONG way off and as much as I enjoyed First Class I sooooo wanted it to tank at the box office and make Fox give their Marvel properties back to Marvel, or at the VERY least let Marvel Studios produce the films and Fox just distribute them like they did with Lucasfilm and Star Wars.

Apocalypse. I want to see Apocalypse. That level of threat would get them friendly again quick.
Yes, bring us a villian we haven't seen on screen yet. I also vote Apocalypse!
I'm cool with that. I'd like a straight-up bad guy in an X-Men movie for a change. The plight of the oppressed mutants at the hands of the evil humans are starting to get as old as a Lex Luthor land development scheme.
Bring on Mr Sinister or Apocalypse - someone we can just flat out hate. :)
