Favreau in Clone Wars Armor

Iron Man director becomes a Mandalorian

“Nearly wiped out by the Jedi Knights in a long-ago war, deadly Mandalorian warriors emerge from the shadows to exact cold revenge upon their peace-seeking rivals. Cloaked in mystery and hardened by memories of their bitter defeat, they are fueled by a collective desire to reclaim the glory of Mandalore – no matter the cost. Pitting skill and determination against the power of the Force, ‘The Mandalore Plot,’ launches an epic, three-part clash that could turn the tide of the war itself. It’s an all-new episode of STAR WARS: THE CLONE WARS airing at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT Friday, January 29 on Cartoon Network.

Voicing the leader of the Mandalorian warriors is actor/director Jon Favreau – a long-time Star Wars fan. His involvement in The Clone Wars came as an indirect result of post-production for the first Iron Man film; he was working with Industrial Light & Magic and Skywalker Sound when his path crossed with Filoni’s at Lucasfilm’s Skywalker Ranch.

‘I had mentioned that I would love to do a voice, and that I’d done voices before – and the idea for me to play a Mandalorian came up. I wasn’t holding out for a cool character, but I think the Mandalorians are probably the ones that the die-hards are going to be the most curious about,’ says Favreau. ‘I grew up a fan of Star Wars. It was the first time I had ever experienced that really iconic, mythic archetypal storytelling. What’s fun about Star Wars is that it still has as much relevance and impact now as it did then. It seems to be a set of characters and a world that is timeless, and every generation seems to embrace. So it’s fun to be able to share with my family and my kids the excitement that I had when I was young’.” - Lucasfilm

Mania’s take: Mandalorians were mentioned to join the series at Comic Con during the Star Wars panel. A picture of their home world was shown along with the mention of one would be bounty hunter making an appearance. Star Wars: The Clone Wars has really become a thrilling epic over the course of one and a half seasons. The animation is incredible but here the true spectacle is the storytelling. Supervising Director Dave Filoni has truly made Star Wars fun again. Stunt casting the likes of Jon Favreau is only icing on the cake.

As usual the Clone wars crap is not nec, but leveling it off at that....

I can't wait to see the take on the Mandalorians!  Boba fett was the coolest thing in 4,5,6 ep's.  Before and after Lucas updates.

Every time I catch an episode I'm impressed. This is really a quality series. I'm waiting for CN to run a full marathon of the entire series so I can Tivo it. But even without being completely up to snuff I enjoy the episodes I do catch

They've altered his voice so much that it's unrecognizable. If you're going to do that then what's the point?

I am liking the toon more than I thought I would.

Not much point in JF other than it is JF and a thrilll for him

If they can keep this level of  quality with the live action show they have planned that would be nice, any word on that??

Clone Wars kicks ass.  People used to say it sucked but now most of them say the same as I do, that it kicks ass.  Everything is great from production values to animation to the voice acting.  Long live the Clone Wars.

Next after the Clone Wars is over I want them to do a toon set in the era of the Old Republic in the same art style created by the same crew.  Now that would kick some ass!

The JF gave us a great ironman movie (hopefully 2), he deserves to get set with ol' lucas for that big paycheck.

Hopefully this will make him a bigger item in hollywood and he'll get to have more control over his movie so they can stay awesome

Jensen Ackles for Captain America!!!

dragon - he is hearing a helmet and talking through the comm system.  Are you upset that you're not going to hear him talking about Vegas or something?  It's just cool he's doing it, not that he's going to play himself.

This series is quite good.  It certainly grew on me and I like it more and more all the time.  It'll be interesting to see this take on the Mandalorians.  It re-shapes the continuity and has ruffled a few feathers but I'm all for it if it means Mando's in this series.

There is more than just one Madalore.  Eventually Boba Fett becomes the Madalore.  And I like the fact that some small remenat of the Madalorians survived from the Old Republic time period.  It is super cool.  I walys thought it was lame that all the Madalorians supposidly got wiped out by the Jedi.

The show is ok but Im just so sick of the Clone Wars time preiod. Telling a Star Wars story in a setting where you already know the outcome is kinda dull. Id like to see animated movies based on the Timmothy Zahn novels and beyond.

Good for JF though...
