Favreau Expresses Interest in AVENGERS

Director Jon Favreau has expressed interest in helming the first Avengers movie sometime in the future. I say sometime in the future because as we reported last month, Marvel Studios seem to be thinking the exact opposite as Warner Bros. They want individual films, each focusing on their own character, out on the market first before they bring all those actors together for a team-up.

So, here's what Favreau told MTV.

...Favreau insists that Marvel will only go ahead with the project if and when all the individual characters get their own story. It'll be worth the wait, Favreau claimed, calling this way not only more impressive and formidable – but more consistent as well.

"I wonder if the tone of 'The Incredible Hulk' is going to be similar or different than ['Iron Man']," Favreau questioned. "And 'Captain America' is a twinkle in Marvel's eye right now. And 'Thor' and 'Ant Man.'

"[But] in the case of Marvel they're pretty clear on wanting to do it with the actors who've established the roles or to not do it at all. That's what they've said to me," he continued.

And this ladies and gentlemen is why Marvel is on top. They are going about this the right way - introducing and building the characters then teaming them up while keeping the continuity by using the same actors.

DC on the other hand is going well with batman (not so well with superman) - but now they want to give us JLA with all new actors in the batman and superman roll. Personally I think this will not work.

And yes I know this is the way X-men was done - but these characters were never in another film before the first x-men movie. And now with the new Wolverine movie in the works they have kept the continuity by casting the same actor to play him.

I think they are going the right way about this but the problem is the movies of the Avengers characters aren't coming out. They've been announced but that's it. No Captain America, Thor yet like Favreu mentioned. When is that going to take place?
If Iron Man and the Hulk are hits they'll probably get greenlight and still no Cap movie.

I always think of the other Avengers.
I wouldn't want a Capt movie. I think it's a bad idea. Am I the only one?

Yeah, marvel is lucky enough not to be own by a studio like DC is.. They have better control of their properties unlike dc comics, who run the risk of getting their characters rape in the ass by warner brothers... Anyways, good for marvel, i hope they do pull a great avengers movie, my favorite ensemble team, second only to the justice league of course

I'll have a better opinion on this once I see "Iron Man", but if it's good, then I'd say give Favereau a chance. I also love what Marvel is doing, making individual movies of characters and then doing an "Avengers" movie. And almostunbiased, I think a Cap movie could be really good, actually. I mean, yeah the 90's movie that only opened in Europe (still makes me laugh) wasn't that great, but with as good as superhero movies are being done these days, I think why the hell not? As long as they actually HAVE the Red Skull LOOK like the Red Skull for the ENTIRE movie, I'd give it a chance. Not sure who would be good for Cap though. I'm afraid we might get stuck with a wrestler or sports figure...I remember years ago Wizard did a casting call for "Avengers" and they had Howie Long for Cap. He looks the part, but that's about it. I would hope they would go with a bit more of an Ultimate Cap for a movie.

I'll join the choir about Marvel doing a better job movie wise than DC in the decision making department.

Also I will need to see how Iron Man turns out, but I'm thinking I'm all for Favereau directing Avengers.

almostunbiased, I kind of agree with you. I think a good Captain America movie that would be a financial success would be fairly hard to pull off. I could easily be wrong, but my imagination strains to figure out how a just Cap film would be entertaining. And I love Cap.

Avengers after all the characters get their own movies? THAT RULES!!!!

Hulk? Check!
Iron Man? Check!
Thor? Coming soon.
Captain America? Who will be the Captain?

Who else will they include? Hawk Eye? Black Panther? The Black Knight? QuickSilver? Spider-Man? Black Widow? The list could be ENDLESS. :)

I really love their thinking on this, but it sounds like it would be way way down the road if they're planning on introducing each character separately. I would love for at least the big three (Cap, Thor and IM) to start out on their own movie just to give them proper respect. As for the rest of the team they can be introduced in the Avengers movie itself. Then branch them out if you think they can carry their own movie.
Being a Marvel head this is my favorite team, bar none. I love the JLA but they just seem invincible with all their powerhouses. The Avengers seem to have that air of vulnerability that I think just makes them more interesting.

For Classic Avengers, they already have Hulk and Iron Man is coming - what they'd need is a Thor movie and an Ant-Man movie. Classic Avengers existed before Captain America and . . .

WAIT - Captain America should be introduced in the Avengers movie, along with Sub-Mariner. That would rule. :)

Merin, that's a great idea. Faithful to the source too. I like it.
