If they really wanted to screw him he wouldn't even be involved with Avengers as an exeutive producer. It's just a matter of him wanting to try something else. I can't vault him for that.

While it completely sucks that he won't be directing Iron Man3. I trust that Marvel will not let the movie suck. Who knows they may just give it to Joss Whedon. Favreau was a great director and the Iron Man movies made him, but that doesn't mean that the movies are going to suck now. I look forward to seeing the Magic Kingdom and what surprises he gives us.

Also congrats to Walking Dead for the Golden Globe nom.

Marvel needs to be in constant communication to resolve whatever issues need to be resolved. Don't let Favrou leave! He made Iron Man a blockbuster success.

It seems clear to me that it was Marvel pushing him into a direction with the movie that was different from what he had in mind.  While I loved what he did with IM1, IM2 felt a bit sloppy.  Don't get me wrong, I still liked IM2, just wasn't AS good.  Perhaps a new director will freshen it up.  As long as they don't try to replace RDJ.  If they put anyone else in that role, no matter how good an actor they are, I'd constanly be saying "yeah, he's alright... but he's no RDJ".

That sucks about Favreau.  I wonder what the real reasons are.  It's good that Favreau is too classy to say anything about Marvel, if there is anything to say, but considering all the other problems that Marvel has had holding on to talent, it really does make one suspicious.  Now we also have to worry about who else will step in to direct IM3.

"The Mythbusters have announced that they'll devote the December 15th episode to the drive-through crime fighter movie Green Hornet. Seth Rogen will assist them in debunking his status as a leading man."  HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!  SOOOO well said, Rob!!

Several sites are also reporting that RDJ's contract gives him right of approval of director. So RDJ can make it very difficult if he wants or nominate a director of his choosing. Guy Ritchie anyone?

Whedon for IM3 would be fantastic. Joss is a great director and could handle the story well. If I were DC I would be backing up the Brinks truck today at Favreau's house and inviting him to direct his choice of films from their character stable. Flash would be great, but I bet he could handle Wonder Woman or how about Checkmate?

Wow! I thought Favreau was going to be the Peter Jackson of Marvel.

I understand Favreau's POV. He can do anything he wants with Magic Kingdom. The Marvel movies are becoming an interlocking franchise and all the directors and writers have to play the game. It's kind of like the chief complaint on Spider-Man 3. Sam Raimi creates his own storyline and then the studio says "No, you have to squeeze Venom in, too."  A filmmaker can feel hogtied that way.

Hopefully, the new director will be creative, enjoy the subject matter, gets along with RDJ, and for Marvel's benefit is not too expensive.

I bet Uwe Boll is cheap :-)
