FEAR EFFECT Game Going to Big Screen

Another day, another video game movie adaptation. This time it is Mindfire Entertainment who has announced their plans to run the Eidos game, Fear Effect, into a feature film.

Stanley Tong is in talks to direct the film while Mindfire CEO Mark A. Altman (House of the Dead 2, DOA: Dead or Alive) will produce.

Apparently the movie is best described as Mission: Impossible meets Silent Hill. The film will follow the storyline of the game, but it will be set 10 years in the future rather than an alternate world.

Color me unimpressed.

Why would any one make a movie out of this game? Why did they even make a second game? The first game cant even be beaten because you cant kill the first boss!!! Gimme a STEEL BATTALION movie!!!

Actually, I always rather enjoyed Altman's fanboy commentary here on Cinescape, the defunct Sci-Fi Universe and equally defunct online Eon Magazine. I haven't seen any of the movies he's worked on, but looking over his IMDB entries, it doesn't look encouraging. I suspect his association with Cinescape is the only reason this project is even being mentioned here.

So far, most the video game to movies have stunk it up. I'm not familiar with what this game is about though, can someone give me a short overview?
