DVD Shopping Bag: Clash of the Titans Blu-ray
by Robert T. Trate, Columnist
(March 02, 2010)
There is of course the obligatory first look at Louis Leterrier’s Clash of the Titans. It just starts playing without any prompting or selecting it as a special feature. I would have watched it anyway but as all the new CGI versions of the Kraken, Medusa
DVD Shopping Bag: Richard Kelly’s The Box
by Robert T. Trate, Columnist
(February 23, 2010)
When The Box and The Vampire’s Assistant came out in the fall of 2009 I had very mixed feelings about seeing them. The Box by Donnie Darko’s Richard Kelly had a great premise. Push this button and receive a million dollars.

by Robert T. Trate, Columnist
(February 16, 2010)
This week the DVD Shopping Bag is going just slightly outside of Mania’s genre. We are just looking over the fence if you will to that genre, the gangster film. No one since the golden age of Hollywood has been more influential than Martin Scorsese.
DVD Shopping Bag: Planet Hulk
by Robert T. Trate, Columnist
(February 09, 2010)
It’s been a week since Planet Hulk has come out. Many of us were looking forward to this animated interpretation of Greg Pak’s thrilling comic. This would be a daunting task for Marvel to pull off in a feature length movie, let alone 81 minutes.
DVD Shopping Bag: Doctor Who The Complete Specials
by Robert T. Trate, Columnist
(February 02, 2010)
I got into Doctor Who just a little over two years ago. I devoured the new adventures of the Doctor and right away knew not to get too attached to Christopher Eccleston. The show had obviously been on for some time so I knew the skinny, crazy haired David

Is the age of the B movie truly over? More often than not if a B movie does surface in the main stream it is because of one of its stars makes a bigger picture. The best example of which right now might be Carriers (see trailer here) starring the new Capta
DVD Shopping Bag: Duncan Jones’ Moon
by Robert T. Trate, Columnist
(January 12, 2010)
What is it about Duncan Jones’ Moon? Last July I eagerly awaited the movie. When July 17th arrived there was not one screening at the local 24 screen cinema. Plenty of Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen screenings (still) but not one for Moon.

Welcome to "2010: The Year We Make Contact" or at least I hope we do. The craziness of the holidays is over but, fear not there are a slew of titles slated for release in the next few months. Thankfully the only upside to a bad economy is that the studios

(December 21, 2009)
The summer might have started with a bang with the revamped, more accessible Star Trek but all true Maniacs know that the best movie of the summer landed on August 14th. August is a tricky month and one that usually harbors Hollywood’s failures.
DVD Shopping Bag: Inglourious Basterds hits Blu-ray
by Robert T. Trate, Columnist
(December 15, 2009)
While sitting there in the theater last August I sat on the brink of anticipation. Long had I waited for the Quentin Tarantino WW2 project to hit the big screen. It had been discussed in the media for quite some time but after both Kill Bills and The Grind

(December 01, 2009)
Here it is December already. With a lack of any big titles this week (no, I don’t consider Terminator Salvation a big title) I thought I would spotlight the entire month of December. To take it even one step further I have supplied links to all these tit
Shopping Bag: BLOOD: The Last Vampire Blu-ray
by Robert T. Trate, Columnist
(November 24, 2009)
In June of this year I wrote about my “Anime Dilemma” (see column). In that I column I spoke about my little to no success with the world of Anime films. More often than not I have stumbled into the dark and often overly twisted Anime films.
Heroes: Brother's Keeper Review
by Stephen Lackey, Critic
(November 17, 2009)
It’s amazing that an episode of Heroes can get a good score and feature both Hiro and Mohinder. These are the two most useless characters in the show and they’re both at the center of this episode.
DVD Shopping Bag: Pixar's Up on Blu-ray
by Robert T. Trate, Columnist
(November 10, 2009)
While watching Disney and Pixar’s UP in the theaters this summer I was blown away by how quickly they won over not only me but the audience. Within the first ten minutes we witness life with all of its ups and downs and became emotionally tied to the cha

by Robert T. Trate, Columnist
(October 13, 2009)
When I first saw the trailer to Drag Me to Hell I was immediately intrigued. How could I not, considering it was Sam Raimi’s return to horror. Then I saw it was rated PG-13 and let out a big groan. Thinking either Raimi or the studio thought a PG-13 horr

DVD Shopping Bag: Fringe Season 1 on Blu-ray
by Robert T. Trate, Columnist
(September 08, 2009)
When Fringe premiered back in September of last year many of us were skeptical. We all thought Fox was letting someone else take another crack at the X-Files. I for one still feel the burn anytime Fox airs a new sci-fi show and think, well how long is this
