Feb. 4 Feb. 10: The Cancellations Continue

By: Sonia Mansfield
Date: Monday, February 04, 2002

I've got a couple of things to say this week:

First, psychic John Edwards, host of CROSSING OVER on the Sci Fi Channel, has signed a deal to develop and star in a series about a man dealing with the issues of being a psychic.

So here's my question: Since Edwards is a psychic do you think he already knows the show is going to suck?

Second, Fox has decided not to pick up THE FAMILY GUY for another season to which I say, "Woo-hoo!"

I have hated this poor man's THE SIMPSONS since the first day it aired. I'm so glad it's finally leaving. I only wish THE TICK was still around to see this.

I know a lot of you don't agree with me, so I feel obligated to let you know that there is an online petition to save THE FAMILY GUY at http://www.petitiononline.com/savefg2/petition.html. THE FAMILY GUY has been pulled off the air before only to return to the schedule months later, so maybe it's not too late.

There. I've done my good deed for the month.

And finally, Fox has taken THE CHAMBER off the schedule too.

Damn, Fox is on a roll.

Unfortunately, Fox execs are saying that this may not be the last we see of THE CHAMBER. They say the show maybe return to the schedule at a later date.

As Beavis used to say, "Are you threatening me?"

Anyway, let me break down the week for you. And, as always, check your local listings.

Monday, February 4

Angel takes

Anthony Stewart Head as Rupert Giles on BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER

the gang to the ballet in tonight's all-new ANGEL (WB, 9 p.m.). Everything is going great until Angel realizes he's seen the ballerina before, more than a century ago. And Angel and Cordelia are overtaken by an overwhelming passion for each other when the spirits of two unrequited lovers possess their bodies. Didn't we already see something like this in an episode of BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER? I'm pretty sure we did.

I'm Spartacus! No, I'm Spartacus! What I'm trying to say is watch SPARTACUS at 7 p.m. on TCM.

Cool toons alert! Check out SAMURAI JACK at 9 p.m., followed by JUSTICE LEAGUE at 9:30 p.m. on the Cartoon Network.

Just in case you need a reminder of why you don't like Kevin Costner WATERWORLD is on ENCORE at 7 p.m.

Tuesday, February 5

Buffy finally decides what's up with Spike being able to hit her in tonight's all-new BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER (UPN) at 8 p.m. Oh, and the Legion of Nerds frame Buffy for murder.

Some pesticide businessman convinces Clark's father to sell the family farm to make way for a new pesticide plant in tonight's all-new SMALLVILLE (WB, 9 p.m.). Hmmmm. I bet kryptonite is involved in this somehow.

Liz starts experiencing weird alien-like changes in her body and contemplates leaving Roswell in tonight's all-new ROSWELL at 9 p.m. on UPN. Funny, UPN is thinking about leaving ROSWELL too.

It's 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. in tonight's all-new 24 (Fox, 9 p.m.) and Teri actually gets to talk to Jack for a few seconds. This show just gets better and better every week.

Bring out the gimp... and let him watch PULP FICTION at 7 p.m. on STARZ!

Wednesday, February 6

The Vulcan

REPLICANT

High Command orders T'Pol to leave the Enterprise, which I'm sure ends with every crew member stripping down in their underwear in tonight's all-new ENTERPRISE (UPN, 8 p.m.).

Nick and Kate take on the Piped Piper in tonight's all-new SPECIAL UNIT 2 on UPN at 9 p.m. I'm not making this up.

Man, Jean-Claude Van Damme just loves himself so much. How many times has the guy played a dual role in a movie? Just wondering. So anyway, if you like "Van Damage" then you won't want to miss REPLICANT on USA at 8 p.m. Personally, I'm going to take a pass on this one.

Thursday, February 7

Brian and Stewie go to Europe and hilarity ensues in this all-new THE FAMILY GUY, starting at 8 p.m. on Fox. This new episode is followed by a rerun in which Stewie goes to daycare. I bet hilarity ensues in that one too.

We've got two hours of CHARMED (WB, 8 p.m.) tonight. First, Phoebe mulls over her marriage proposal from Cole and comes face-to-face with his demonic past. Then at 9 p.m., The Source sucks all the magical power out of the sisters and threatens the lives of Leo and Cole. That bastard!

Oh, and there's two hours of CSI: CRIME SCENE INVESTIGATION starting at 8 p.m. on CBS. The first hour is a repeat in which an apparent vehicular-manslaughter case turns into a murder investigation when Grissom discovers that the victim, who was deaf, was actually killed before a car hit him. Then, in the second all-new episode, Grissom's leadership is called into question by a member of his staff. Who would do such a thing? Sara maybe?

Friday, February 8

Gun-toting robbers menace Lois and Craig at the Lucky Aide, while swarming bats beset Hal and the boys at home in this repeat of MALCOLM IN THE MIDDLE at 8:30 p.m. on Fox.

Max gets shot and rushed to the hospital which puts her transgenic identity in danger of being revealed in tonight's all-new DARK ANGEL at 9 p.m. on Fox.

Turner finds evidence of human cloning in the pilot episode of STRANGE WORLD (Sci-Fi Channel at 8 p.m.).

A New York City crime wave inspires Tucker, Wes and Grace to get the drop on a high-flying, tights-wearing figure who fancies himself the Big Apple's guardian in tonight's THE CHRONICLE at 9 p.m. on Sci-Fi Channel.

Hey remember 1989's DEEPSTAR SIX? Me either. But it's on TBS at 9 p.m.

Oh, the Winter Olympics start, if you're into that sort of thing (and if you're reading this Web site I'll assume you're not).

Saturday, February 9

An evil

Members of Cartoon Network's JUSTICE LEAGUE: (back left) J'onn J'onzz, Hawkgirl, Green Lantern, Wonder Woman, Flash, Superman and Batman

spirit that Giles and his old school friends conjured up comes back to get them in tonight's BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER (syndicated, check local listings).

A tour-ship captain helps Dylan evade the Ogami out to kill him, but may regret the move once they crash on a volcanic planet in tonight's GENE RODDENBERRY'S ANDROMEDA (syndicated, check local listings).

Sean Connery as James Bond tries to nail a saboteur bent on depleting America's gold reserve in GOLDFINGER at 8 p.m. on ABC.

Prepare yourself for the live action Scooby movie coming out this summer by checking out SCOOBY-DOO AND THE ALIEN INVADERS on the Cartoon Network at 7 p.m.

John Travolta tries playing a bad guy in John Woo's BROKEN ARROW on FX at 8 p.m.

Oh, and TNT has got RONIN at 8 p.m. It's not the best movie in the world, but the car chases are pretty cool.

Sunday, February 10

Having secured a lucrative contract, the Professor upgrades the Planet Express ship, giving it a new voice (voiced by Sigourney Weaver) that arouses Bender in tonight's all-new FUTURAMA (Fox, 7 p.m.).

Bobby goes to Boomhauer for advice on how to get over a break up in tonight's all-new KING OF THE HILL (Fox, 7:30 p.m.). Yes, please tell us Boomhauer.

In a spoof of INDECENT PROPOSAL, millionaire Artie (voiced by Jon Lovitz) offers Homer and Marge $1 million if Marge will spend one weekend with him in tonight's all-new THE SIMPSONS (Fox, 8 p.m.).

Another episode of THE SIMPSONS airs at 9 p.m. It's a rerun of the season-opener in which Homer and Marge are punished by a tough judge for Bart's misbehavior.

Yikes! Reese gets a learner's permit in tonight's all-new MALCOLM IN THE MIDDLE (Fox, 8:30 p.m.).

UPN is giving you a second chance to catch last Wednesday's ENTERPRISE tonight at 9 p.m.

Vaughan risks his job to help Sydney and her dad catch Quentin Tarantino, who has broken into SD-6 threatening to kill everyone, in tonight's all-new ALIAS at 9 p.m. on ABC. I assume Tarantino is playing a character and not actually himself.
