Fox chief talks DAREDEVIL reboot - Oct 07, 2008 - 07:59am
"But, if you took the time to click the picture, your dumb ass would see that i'm a 27 year old Black man."
Because, of course, no one could put a picture of someone else on their profile...
Designer lends MAGNETO, GREEN LANTERN insights - Oct 07, 2008 - 07:48am
I'm guessing the "suit" in question is alien suit to make a person look like Kilowog. Not the GL uniform "suit" much like the Thing suit that Chiklis wore in the FF movies. That's how I read it.
Update: Director Rumor Debunked for 28 MONTHS LATER - Oct 06, 2008 - 08:47am
Weeks was good, not great, but Days kicked complete ass. Loved that movie. Don't think the 2nd movie was really good enough to merit a 3rd. I'd really have to see some exciting material from the 3rd to get me jacked about it.
Morgan and Goode talk WATCHMEN - Oct 06, 2008 - 08:43am
Never gonna happen, hanso. Moore has got such a huge pole up his ass about Hollywood, he will never own up. You could literally give him an unlimited budget and say, "Here. You have complete creative control with as much money as you want. Make an adaptation of any one of your works however you want it done and we will not interfere," and he would probably complain that he screwed it up himself!
Fox chief talks DAREDEVIL reboot - Oct 06, 2008 - 07:35am
I think the Hulk reboot showed the problem with reboots. Especially with doing reboots too quickly. I think one of the reasons The Incredible Hulk didn't do better was the mainstream audience's confusion of having a new movie with different people. I had my wife and several people ask me, "So... what, is this a sequel? What's going on with it? Why isn't Eric Bana/Jennifer Connelly/Sam Elliot back?" I think people were more accepting of Batman & Superman because they are *so* iconic that the character is larger than the actor. Also, they have been portrayed so many times over the years that people are used to different people playing them. Daredevil's a much less known character and it will be more difficult selling him to a mainstream audience with a different actor. Not that it can't be done, but I think it will take a while before people are ready. I wish they had just gone ahead and done a 2nd one with Affleck, but I guess that's just me.
Designer lends MAGNETO, GREEN LANTERN insights - Oct 06, 2008 - 07:13am
I would just like to see some actual movement on some of these projects. They were talking about Magneto at the same time as they began talking about Wolverine and that is already filming. GL has been talked about forever. They have a script and a director and apparently a ton of concept art. Why wait until spring of next year to begin? What about Supermax? Apparently that script has been approved for months now, and there's been nothing on that. Hell, I don't think Kick-Ass had even been announced when Wanted came out some 3 months ago, and they're already filming! I'm tired of reading about projects getting greenlit in Hollywood, then they vanish forever. If they're not ready to go on a project, they should just shut their pie holes until it's a reality! Ugh. This is what happens when I post before I get to my 2nd cup o' joe...
KICK-ASS Costume Revealed - Oct 04, 2008 - 07:18pm
It does look a little silly, but isn't that kind of the idea? I haven't read the series, but from what I've read about it, it's just some kid who decides to try to be a superhero and puts on a suit, right?
THOR writer approves of Branagh - Oct 03, 2008 - 08:21am
Regardless of who directs, Thor is going to be a tough sell. I'm going in with high hopes and low expectations. Having JMS do the script boosts my hopes a little. He rocked the shit with Babylon 5.
YOGI BEAR Hitting the Big Screen - Oct 03, 2008 - 08:10am
This will probably be cheesy as hell, do great with the kiddies and spawn a series of DTV sequels without the main (human) star and make a ton of money for the studio while raping the childhood memories of my generation. *sigh*
FRINGE Picked Up for Full Season - Oct 03, 2008 - 08:06am
Wow. I'm amazed. They're actually keeping a genre show. Then again, Fox did keep X-Files for, what, 9 seasons? Of course, this might mean they will change the time slot 2-3 times per season. Then they'll start rotating cast members out, bring in some pretty faces who can't act. I'm sure they'll do whatever they can to ruin the show. But until they do, I'm going to thoroughly enjoy it.
Top Maniacal Rumors: Clooney Ranger, Romero Returns and Knight Prepping - Oct 03, 2008 - 08:01am
1. Love Clooney (yes, hanso, I will admit I am totally gay for Clooney). He is The Man. Don't know if he's perfect for the part, but it depends on the take on the character. Have to see some info on script & director. I could see it going either way.
2. BFD.
3. I'm iffy about the director, but the script reviews sound good. Hopefully it will rock. As others have pointed out, Peter Jackson was just some obscure Australian dude before LOTR. You never know... (oh, and whoever brought up Supermax, I agree 100%!!)
4. I have no problem with Dunst. I think they should have gone with a whole new cast & crew, but if Sam & Toby are back, they should keep Dunst.
5. I agree with others. Until Nolan signs on the dotted line and starts talking story, I don't even want to hear about it.
HEROES: One of Us, One of Them - Oct 02, 2008 - 01:56pm
Good question about Peter/Sylar being like Havok/Cyclops. I hadn't thought of that. I would cut Peter some slack. He's just a regular dude trying to deal with some pretty far out shit. Remember, when the series started, he was a nurse taking care of a dying Shaft. It's not like he was trained as a military strategist. Also, as he's tried to fix things in the past, it has screwed up the future, so he's probably fairly hesitant to use his powers to their fullest extent. Not to mention, he almost blew up New York because he couldn't control his powers. Might lead to some issues. Finally, although I think they've shown that he will absorb a power just by being exposed to someone with that power, it doesn't necessarily mean that he *knows* he has that power until he happens to use it. Or if he sees someone using their power in front of him.
Favreau talks about IRON MAN 2 and AVENGERS - Oct 02, 2008 - 01:45pm
Amen, joey! As far as villains, I would stick with Spymaster, Madame Masque (especially since he made the comment about a female villain), maybe Titanium Man or Crimson Dynamo. Stay away from Modok or Fin Fang Foom, they would just be silly. I'm hesitant about Mandarin, but I guess the set-up is already there. People are just going to have to get over the fact that changes will have to be made. I mean, seriously, Google it people. See what The Mandarin looked like in the comics and imagine that on the big screen. See what I'm saying? They should definitely work in the drinking and subsequently, Rhodey putting on the armor for the first time (I'm thinking the Mark II armor, to try to stop a drunk Tony in the Mark III). This will set up for the appearance of War Maching in IM3, setting up for the spin-off movie.
SMALLVILLE producers talk GRAYSONS - Oct 02, 2008 - 08:39am
Aye yi yi... This is bad news on multiple fronts. The Graysons already sounded like a terrible idea. Now they're saying they're going to keep going on Smallville? Wrong! Wrap it up *this season*!! Let it end with dignity!
Goodfellas Scorsese and De Niro Reteaming for Gangland HOUSES - Oct 02, 2008 - 08:36am
Because when I think "Irish", I think De Niro.
But really, who cares? It's Scorsese & De Niro. I'm down. Good call on Dicaprio, hanso. That would be awesome!
HEROES: One of Us, One of Them - Oct 02, 2008 - 08:27am
I thought the Bennett/Sylar team-up was great, especially with Bennett's final comment to the Haitian. Brought me back to the feeling of Season 1, when I turned to my wife all wide-eyed and said, "Oooooh..." Great ending.
I'm not sure about the cloning of Nikki. Wasn't Jessica a twin who died young and Nikki absorbed her personality, or something like that? Maybe they were triplets. Or maybe Nikki has a Jamie Madrox-like duplicating power that creates duplicates with different powers & personalities. Has Nikki displayed any other powers? I think we've always assumed her power was Jessica, but maybe Jessica (and Tracy) had their own powers, and their creation was Nikki's power.
As far as the oxygen thing, I had 2 thoughts. 1) Claire's mom has obviously had more practice with her powers, and might therefore have trained herself to get by with less oxygen, knowing her power burns it up. 2) She deliberately placed her flaming hand in front of Claire's face, so it may be a more localized phenomenon, sucking up the oxygen directly around her hands and therefore drawing it away from Claire. Both fairly reasonable explanations. To downgrade the episode on something so minor would be nitpicking indeed.
I like Greg Grunberg, but they haven't been able to make Parkman really interesting this season. I don't like this whole African jaunt. I'm interested to see where it goes, though. This season is definitely getting off to a better start than last season, but still not quite as good as the 1st. But still, it's better than 90% of what's out there.
Robin's Dick Grayson Coming to the CW - Oct 01, 2008 - 01:34pm
Hey, if you *really* want to do a Robin TV show, get the guy who did the Grayson trailer and throw him some green. Let him develop Grayson as a TV show instead of a feature. The show can be about his fight to bring Bruce's killer to justice in a corrupt Gotham City, while trying to live up to the legend of his mentor etc. You can play a little with continuity, since it obviously takes place slightly in the future and you don't know what has happened between the present and when the series takes place.
Robin's Dick Grayson Coming to the CW - Oct 01, 2008 - 01:29pm
If they want another superhero show, JL spinoff is definitely the way to go! Development is 1/2 way done already. Casting & costuming is done. Virtually no preproduction. They could even recycle some Smallville sets and keep the general aesthetic of the show. No brainer, if you ask me.
TERMINATOR: THE SARAH CONNOR CHRONICLES: Allison from Palmdale - Oct 01, 2008 - 01:27pm
Dammit. Forgot that Derek took John to see Kyle & Derek as kids. Ah well. Nice try. Maybe he's that Marcus Wright guy from the new movie. Or maybe just some random dude. Shit. Guess it won't matter if the show gets cancelled anyway. They should move it to another night so it's not up against MNF and DWTS. Put it on Wednesday night. Pushing Daisies is the only thing I watch on Wednesdays and I can always double-DVR.
Ratner Confirms Leadership of GOD OF WAR - Oct 01, 2008 - 08:26am
Ok. Yet again, I can't see page 2 because the screen whites out. I will keep bitching about this until it stops. I won't target the little people like MrJE, but I will have to go frickin' postal somewhere.
Actually, I don't play the game, so I don't have much to say about that. I don't have the Ratner hate that most Maniacs seem to, but somehow I don't see him fitting in on this project. Mostly, I will just express my condolences to hanso. I think MrJE summed it up pretty well with the Alba analogy. Sorry, pal. I know it sucks. Just remember, Ratner did direct Red Dragon, and that kicked some major ass. Here's to hoping.
Michael Sheen is UNTHINKABLE and Set for Burton's ALICE - Oct 01, 2008 - 08:10am
Chuck Norris??? Gimme a break! Even at the peak of his youth and fitness, he couldn't beat Jack Bauer if Jack has his hands tied behind his back! Jack is the MAN!
De Luca Remaking Rourke's Supernatural ANGEL HEART - Oct 01, 2008 - 08:06am
No. No. No. No. No. Do NOT, I repeat, do NOT remake this movie! Fyi, ponyboy, the original movie kicks *major* ass. Mickey Rourke and Robert De Niro at their peaks. Hot young Lisa Bonet. Atmosphere galore. Killer story with good twists. I LOVE this movie. It rocks!
Robin's Dick Grayson Coming to the CW - Oct 01, 2008 - 08:02am
Ok. Yet again, I can't see page 2 because the screen whites out. I will keep bitching about this until it stops. So, apologies if this is duplicative of someone else's post.
Wow, this sounds really lame... Ok, that's about all I can muster for such a lame story. All that bitching for a 5-word post. *sigh*
TERMINATOR: THE SARAH CONNOR CHRONICLES: Allison from Palmdale - Oct 01, 2008 - 07:56am
Chuck is great and his sister is a turbo hottie. Anyway, I thought this was a good episode. I like that it looks like John will start toughening up a bit next episode. However, the way he has been portrayed (as opposed to how they showed him in T2) begs the question, what the hell has Sarah been doing with John for his first 16-17 years? He hasn't demonstrated much tactical or combat abilities as yet. From the previews, it looks like he's going to *start* to get some training next week. WTF? I'd like to see John maybe get into a fight with a kid at school and kick his ass, since Sarah should have been training him to fight since he was born. Good call by hanso about Cameron's future mom picking the name due to the phone call. I got the same vibe.
Finally... has anyone else caught if they mention the cop's last name? I don't think they mentioned it, they just called him Trevor. My guess is that his name is Trevor Reese and neighbor lady is Kyle and Derek's mother. Anyone agree/disagree?
Ridley Scott Drops Spoiler Surprise for NOTTINGHAM? - Sep 29, 2008 - 02:32pm
Once again, apologies if I am duplicating someone else's thoughts, but due to the fucking white-out-screen, I STILL can't see page 2 or 3 of the comments. Anyway, I don't like this recent development. This makes me less interested in this movie. "One becomes the other"? Sounds pretty lame. I would prefer a straight-up role reversal of the main characters, as the idea was originally pitched. When they first announced this project, it sounded pretty simple - new take on Robin Hood myth wherein Nottingham is the noble hero and Hood is an outlaw thief (and not necessarily a kind-hearted giving type). That might interest me.
Kenneth Branagh Ready to Direct THOR - Sep 29, 2008 - 02:26pm
Apologies if someone already mentioned this, but due to the fucking white-out-screen, I STILL can't see page 2 of the comments. BUT, if you haven't seen much of Branagh, check out Dead Again. He directed and starred in dual roles. Very cool movie, and I'm not just saying that because I share a name with the main character. That's just what brought the movie to my attention when it came out 17 years ago. I haven't seen his Hamlet, so I'm not sure about his Shakespearian dialogue skills. Interesting choice, though. I am now officially interested in seeing his take on the material.
New Set Photos for Voorhees' FRIDAY - Sep 29, 2008 - 02:19pm
Wow. This looks really bad. I guess I'm in the minority here, based on the comments being made, but I really just have no desire to see this. Ah well. That's what makes America great...
TV Wasteland: More Shows Coming Back This Week - Sep 29, 2008 - 02:11pm
For some odd reason, my DVR won't allow me to set series recordings for pay cable shows. Consequently, in my anxiety leading up to the game and my excitement over the Skins beating Dallas, I forgot to record True Blood and Dexter last night. Tonight looks to be busy with Heroes, Chuck, Life and Sarah Connor. Fortunately, premium cable channels tend to re-run their episodes about 52 times per week and, failing that, there's always On Demand.
Paul Newman Passes Away at 83 - Sep 27, 2008 - 04:54pm
I can't say that I'm overly shocked, but I was still very saddened by this when I read it earlier. An amazing actor, an amazing man. He will be missed. R.I.P.
Latest Trailer for Singer's VALKYRIE - Sep 27, 2008 - 07:44am
Agreed about the accents. Tom Cruise is nuts, but he's a talented actor. This looks like it could be pretty good.
Plum Taking on Harlan Coben's INNOCENT Thriller - Sep 26, 2008 - 08:58am
And the cops think he had something to do with her disappearance, so he has to prove his innocence while diving back into the world he's trying to escape yada yada yada... So is there anything that differentiates this from the thousand other movies about a guy getting out of prison trying to go straight & getting sucked back in?
Rachel McAdams Set as Adler in SHERLOCK HOLMES - Sep 26, 2008 - 08:54am
Interesting that she was a big fan favorite to play Pepper Potts opposition RDJ, and now she's playing opposite him in this. Glad to see her in this. She's a talented actress and very easy on the eyes.
Del Toro Co-Writing Vampire Trilogy - Sep 25, 2008 - 07:54pm
First the Spielberg story, now this. I wish these people would frickin' finish something!
NATIONAL TREASURE 3 Confirmed for Disney - Sep 25, 2008 - 07:47pm
Well, if you didn't like the 1st, I wouldn't bother with 2. I pretty thoroughly enjoyed both. They're not perfect, but they were fun and entertaining.
WB Moving Forward with I AM LEGEND Prequel - Sep 25, 2008 - 07:41pm
I'm ok with prequels. Doesn't necessarily ruin it knowing where they turn out. At the risk of sounding cliche, it's the journey that matters. As long as the characters and the situations are interesting, it can be enjoyable. Don't know if someone already said this since my damn screen keeps blanking out.
Spielberg Readies More Sci-Fi in CHOCKY? - Sep 25, 2008 - 07:35pm
This is getting ridiculous. This is almost as bad as Bryan Singer and Sam Raimi. Announce a ton of projects, talk about them all, but have no movement on any of them.
Depp Aboard Disney's PIRATES 4, ALICE and RANGER - Sep 25, 2008 - 07:32pm
Well, I can't see Jack shit because these screens keep friggin' whiting out on me. Half the stories, I can't even see. Pissing me off.
Anyway, it's possible that they're going a new direction with this Lone Ranger and Tonto will be a white man who was raised by Natives. Guess we'll see. I'm up for Pirates 4, I suppose, if it's done well. I'd like to think hanso's right about putting the Riddler rumors to rest for a while, but I doubt it will happen. Look at the comment from THEPIB just a few hours earlier... *sigh*
SUPERNATURAL: Lazarus Rising - Sep 24, 2008 - 01:44pm
I'm a straight man, and I'm secure enough in my sexuality to admit that Dean is hot. My wife and I rarely even refer to the show as Supernatural any more. Usually, we call it Cutie Boy Show. Mostly, I think it's his character, though. I thought he was just annoying when he was on Smallville.
***Spoilers***
I agree that Dean was brought back to deal with Sam. I don't know if I buy that Castielle (sp?) is an angel. Even if he is, I don't get why Sam wouldn't believe in them. He believes in demons, so why wouldn't he believe in angels? I could see why he'd be skeptical at someone claiming to be one, but not their entire existence. I figured about Sam using his powers as soon as I realized Dean had the knife. The only way Sam would go up against 3 demons by himself would be if he was using his powers. I didn't see the Ruby part coming, though. I thought when she ditched the previous body (who I did think was hotter than the current one), she was sent back to hell. Didn't realize she was just going to jump meat suits. Finally - loved the holy water in the face! Classic!
TERMINATOR: THE SARAH CONNOR CHRONICLES: The Mousetrap - Sep 24, 2008 - 09:13am
Manson's character could be interesting, but her acting is bad. Anyone think it's a possibility that her T-1000 could have been reprogrammed? Is it possible she isn't just another Skynet pawn sent to kill John? Just a thought. I don't think Cameron was being jealous, she was trailing John in her mission to protect. Overall, though, she could be starting to humanize. In T2, Arnie's 600 Series (?) tells John that the more time he spends with humans, the more behaviors he picks up and can emulate humans better. Cameron has spent months in the sole company of two humans and had exposure to many more. Riley and neighbor-chick (Busy Phillips) seem like unnecessary additions to the cast. Probably added to keep the show from becoming too much of a sausage fest. They're cute, though. Riley looks like she could be the little sister of Claire from Lost. Finally, I'm getting tired of John whining about wanting to have a life. It's been drilled into his head for 18 years now that he's too important to the future and he has a destiny he has to fulfill. *Every* time he strays from that, he is put in mortal danger. You think he'd catch on.
HEROES: The Second Coming/The Butterfly Effect - Sep 24, 2008 - 08:48am
I can't see the 2nd page of comments because of the damn white-out effect, but here are my thoughts. Sylar not opening the door with his powers was lame, but I could deal with that. He wound up getting at her anyway. He could have just been playing with her. I think Tracie is another personality of Nikki's, and therefore she has different powers. William Katt wasn't in the show very long. What, 5 minutes? I was fine with Kaito's video. He clearly knew his son and knew he would open the safe. Don't care for girl Flash much, but I don't despise her. Elle is annoying, so I don't mind if she's gone. Interesting twist that only Nathan can see Linderman. But he's not imaginary because he healed Nathan. Maya is a turbo hottie. Don't care about her character, though. Mohinder was completely predictable. He might as well change his name to Brundlefly.
TRUE BLOOD: Mine - Sep 24, 2008 - 08:32am
I took it to mean that the synthetic stuff did ok to sustain their "lives" but that it is a poor substitute for the real thing. Kind of like the glop in The Matrix that had the nutrients, but looked and tasted like runny snot.
Bekmambetov Reworking MOBY DICK and Developing WANTED 2 - Sep 23, 2008 - 07:42am
YES, galaga! I am having that problem too! I thought it was some bizarre security setting at my work. *VERY* annoying!!
Why bother doing Moby Dick if you're going to change what makes it a classic? Just call it something else, then you can do whatever you want to the story. Don't even try to claim it is based on the classic, then change it. "Hey, let's make Of Mice & Men. But instead of Lennie being a little slow mentally, he's just a dick who likes killing small animals. Oooh, and he's a serial rapist! There you go! It's gold, Jerry! Gold!" Eesh...
SMALLVILLE: Odyssey - Sep 23, 2008 - 07:30am
Around 1/2 way through last season, they were saying they thought they had one more season left in them. That's when Lana & Lex decided they were leaving. Then, when the new folks came in, suddenly they are now saying this might not be the last season. I really think it should be. They need to move Clark forward toward his destiny. There's also been some backtracking about the "No Tights, No Flight" mantra. They're still saying "No Tights" but I'm guessing Clark will learn to fly this season. I think that would be a mistake. I think he should be trying to learn, but not figure it out until the end. Now that he's in Metropolis, maybe he can start with leaping buildings, working his way up to tall buildings in a single bound. Anyway, I'm glad to see Clark in Metropolis, working at the Planet and starting to embrace his destiny. Hopefully, they will bring it all together by the end of the season and end the series on a high note!
TRUE BLOOD: Mine - Sep 23, 2008 - 07:20am
Actually, Tara's boobies look pretty decent, they just haven't shown them. Yet. *crosses fingers* I agree that the vampire hierarchy is interesting. That's the part of the show I'm finding most intriguing - the vampire society and politics. It is interesting that not all the vampires agreed with "coming out." Who made the decision, then? Who has the authority to make that decision for all vamps? And why did this Japanese corporation develop this synthetic blood? Did they know about vamps? Or was it for medical purposes for humans, and vampires just discovered it? As far as Bill revealing the weaknesses to Sookie, my guess is that after 170 years, he's just a pretty good judge of character and knows she can be trusted. Besides, they need a narrative device to inform the audience, so they have him tell her. This is where suspension of disbelief comes in. Even if a "real" vampire wouldn't reveal the info so quickly, it's ok here because the audience needs information, so we have one character tell another and we find out. Aside from all that, it's in the script.
And the Emmy Goes To... - Sep 22, 2008 - 08:13am
Emerson should have won for best supporting. He was robbed. Michael C. Hall, as usual, was snubbed as Dexter. But at least Hugh Laurie didn't win this time. I like House, and I think Laurie is good, but Hall abso-fuckin-lutely rocks as Dexter! He deserves recognition!
Governator Ready to Rejoin PREDATOR? - Sep 22, 2008 - 08:10am
She said, "Why'd you say it twice?"
I said, "I didn't." *pauses* Y'know... cuz of the echo...
Nic Cage and Sena Reteam to Escort a WITCH - Sep 22, 2008 - 08:06am
Please tell me they're not trying to get Cage to play a 14th century knight... Hey, I like the guy. I think he's a good actor and I enjoy many of his movies, but realize the man's limitations. A knight he is not.
TV Wasteland: The Good Times Will Come to an End - Sep 22, 2008 - 08:04am
The Shield. Tuesdays at 10:00 pm EST on FX.
What do you think, Hanso? Vic gonna die? Kill Shane? Ronnie going to lose it and kill them both? Dutch gonna lose it, kill Billings and rape Danni & Tina (maybe even Claudette for good measure - I can see Dutch turning into a serial rapist)? Is Shane going to kill Mara? Will Corrine discover Vic's secrets and turn him in to IAD? How will it all end?!?
Top Maniacal Rumors: Maguire Cash, Boreanaz Green and Longoria Wasp! - Sep 19, 2008 - 11:57am
What names is he calling them? He says their minds are opaque, just a statement. Then he says he *won't* say they're obtuse, but simply that he doesn't know what they are doing. That's not name-calling in my book.
Sci-Fi Picks Up WAREHOUSE 13 - Sep 19, 2008 - 09:31am
joey, ditto what trazalca and WISEGUY said! Between this and your Jack Bauer rant the other day, you've been killing me!
Shatner Responds to Abrams' STAR TREK Snub - Sep 19, 2008 - 09:25am
I agree this is all some sort of publicity stunt. I'm guessing he will be in the movie in a cameo role. Let's not forget that Spock is apparently in the movie in a cameo and flashes back to their early days? Something like that? No one has stated exactly when in Spock's life this takes place. The Nimoy Spock could always be reminiscing with Kirk at some point before Kirk dies. We don't know. Or, he could just pop up at the end without explanation, generating more buzz and talk of a sequel. We won't know until the movie comes out.
By the way, am I the only one who noticed that Shat's daughter is kinda cute?
Studios Bidding for Mark Millar's WAR HEROES - Sep 19, 2008 - 09:17am
Could be interesting. Right now, I'm more interested in Kick Ass. Everything I've been reading about that movie keeps making me more & more interested. I'm starting to really look forward to that one!
Jude Law is Dr. Watson to Downey's SHERLOCK HOLMES - Sep 19, 2008 - 09:08am
Even if Watson tended to play toward the frumpy side in many previous incarnations, Ritchie has already stated that this version is going to focus more on the action side of Holmes as a boxer and fencer. It would follow that Watson would have to be in decent shape to keep up.
Ok, nitpick time. Misleading headline again. The Variety article referenced here simply states that Law is "negotiating" to join RDJ. He hasn't signed on the dotted line yet, so at a minimum, the headline of the article should end in a question mark. Also, the article makes no mention of Mark Strong. In fact, this article is the first mention I've seen of a specific villain. The Variety article mentions the villain by name, but says the studio "is still casting." Where did this come from?
Enough of that. If this is true, I'm down. I think Law would be a great addition. Not overly familiar with Strong, but I'm sure he'll be good. I agree that maybe you can't start right off with Moriarty as the villain. You would run the risk of having the villain overshadow the hero, a la Tim Burton's Batman. Keep M for the sequel.
Top Maniacal Rumors: Maguire Cash, Boreanaz Green and Longoria Wasp! - Sep 19, 2008 - 08:52am
1. Like I said when PJ sued New Line for his profits, none of you can honestly tell me that if you thought you were owed the money that you wouldn't take it or go for it. These movies have made the studio a ton of bank and, from what I've read, the $50M figure includes profit sharing IF the new movies make comparable BO to the first 3. I have no problem with this.
2. New/old. Either/or. I'm just thinking this movie will never get made.
3. Don't know enough about Y, but if the creator of the comic says Shia is the man, he should get the part.
4. I have no prob with Boreanaz, but it's irrelevant because he's too old for the part as it is written. I think this rumor only got started because the artist stated that he used DB as his physical model for Hal, just as Wesley was modeled after Eminem in Wanted.
5. I'm fine with Eva, she's hot, but I think this is bogus. The pic looks photoshopped.
6. I thought GR was ok, so I'd be fine with a sequel. I doubt it will happen though. P.S. Eva Mendes is smokin'!!
7. People need to lay off Norton. All parties agreed that there was no issue with him. It was the media trying to make a story where there was none. If they make a Hulk 2, or use the Hulk in The Avengers, Norton is the man to do it.
8. Maybe Alan Moore will write the screenplay for it. Shyah! And monkeys might fly out of my butt!
HBO Renews Vampyric TRUE BLOOD - Sep 18, 2008 - 08:13am
I don't mind a shorter season, as long as they are produced in a reasonable amount of time. What did Sopranos have between seasons? 2-3 years? At least Dexter and The Shield have been keeping a relatively normal schedule.
Trailer for 24: REDEMPTION - Sep 17, 2008 - 10:13am
Ponyboy, you are killing me! I think my favorite is the one about daylight savings time. LOL!
Oh, and 24 kicks ass.
So does The Shield. Though I disagree about Vic "growing some balls" in dealing with his wife. The whole thing that makes Vic an interesting character is that he actually has a heart. He's not a pure cold-blooded prick. He dives into rotten infested swimming pools to save infants, he cries when his hooker friend ODs, he loves his family and will do anything to protect them. Yes, he will shoot an undercover cop right between the eyes, but he feels guilt about it afterwards. He is The Man. One of the best written and acted characters on TV. Ever.
Norton Unsure on Returning as INCREDIBLE HULK - Sep 17, 2008 - 10:03am
Well, Will Smith himself just said he's not in talks for Cap, and that he wouldn't do it if approached. As far as the so-called tiff between Marvel & Norton, all parties agreed that there was no big fight and the media blew everything up for its own purposes. All parties agreed that they had a great experience on the movie and would love to do another on if the B.O. called for it etc. At this point, I don't think a Hulk 2 would be feasible before The Avengers, so that's probably where the character will show up, if at all. Given the ambiguity of Cap, Thor & Ant Man's respective statuses, I'm not certain The Avengers will actually get made by 2010. IM2 is the only movie that's had concrete movement on it. All the others are just rumor, conjecture or "it's in someone's hands, we'll see where it goes from here."
On a side note, speaking of The Avengers, with regard to the rumors of Eva Longoria playing The Wasp. As other have pointed out, without any script or other set-up movies in place, I find it very unlikely they'd be working on casting so early. Also, does anyone else think that pic looked like it might have been photoshopped? Who carries a stack of comics like that so that a passing papparazzo can just happen to see exactly what you are reading?
Johnson Sets Up LOOPER - Sep 17, 2008 - 09:53am
Wanted meets The 4400? Seems kind of unnecessary to have orders to kill come from the future. Sounds a bit gimmicky.
Kidman to Trot Globe in WONDER - Sep 17, 2008 - 09:51am
This sounds a lot like Tomb Raider. I rewatched that the other night, and it was still pretty good. Mostly just because AJ was so frickin' hot in it. The movie itself was ok. Didn't care for the sequel as much, but damn, she is a fine looking specimen.
10 Hottest Babes of Sci-Fi - Sep 17, 2008 - 09:42am
Plenty of room for disagreement here. What about Jessica Alba in Dark Angel? Megan Fox in Transformers? Granted, she's not so much the warrior or android or starship captain in that movie, but she's hot and she's in a sci-fi movie. Leia in the bikini should definitely be higher on the list. I could go on, but you get the point. It's all personal preference.
Is Maguire a $50 Million Man? - Sep 16, 2008 - 01:27pm
It's the same with PJ suing New Line over his percentage. If the movie's are making the money, why do people keep getting on the case of stars & directors who want their share? If the next two movies keep making roughly the same amount of money as the first three averaged, it will be well worth it to show Tobey the money. Let's not forget, the $50M figure is the max he can earn WITH profit sharing IF the movies make the bank. If they tank, he won't make $50M.
Sci-Fi Adds to CORN Cast - Sep 16, 2008 - 12:01pm
Everything I've seen of the movie looks so incredibly cheesy. I'll have to go back & read the original source material. King is one of my favorite authors, but his material doesn't adapt well to film. He has had some success, though, with his TV remakes for some odd reason. Who knows? Maybe this will be good...
HBO Goes on MANHUNT - Sep 16, 2008 - 08:46am
I would almost be more interested in a behind-the-scenes special showing how thoroughly the book was researched. On what evidence does the author base his premise? Is HBO presenting this as a more or less historical account of what happened or as a purely fictional hypothesis based on a few theories? Either way, based on HBO's work on John Adams, I have faith in their ability to make a historical drama of American history interesting and entertaining.
Kruger to Mold BULLET - Sep 15, 2008 - 09:36am
Oh, but this is different. This movie mentions God in the title at the same time with Bullet, which implies violence. Therefore, people will protest, automatically generating a certain amount of publicity. Beyond that, same old same old...
Fox Deals With a DOOMSDAY PROTOCOL - Sep 12, 2008 - 09:05am
Between this, Inglorious Bastards, SuperMax and a possible Dirty Dozen remake (do I recall that correctly?), isn't it about time for a Suicide Squad movie?
Jon Favreau Opens Up on IRON MAN 2 and 3 - Sep 12, 2008 - 09:02am
All I can think about is Chris Rock talking about how a brother will put spinning rims on anything, even a toaster. "They spinnin' n-a, they spinnin'!!"
Alex Aja's PIRANHA 3-D Shoot Delayed - Sep 12, 2008 - 08:48am
Between joeybaloney's and hanso's comments, I feel like I've come home...
And yes, no matter how nice and how frequent the boobie viewing and touching is (Mrs. Baloney lets me see & touch her 3-D boobies daily, too - they're real and they're spectacular), there's nothing like viewing a little strange.
Director and Script Ready for GREATEST AMERICAN HERO - Sep 11, 2008 - 09:54am
Umm, did you ever actually see the show Miner? Only similarity to Hancock is that both properties involved superheroes somehow.
Wonder if Cannell's comment about acting jobs means the original characters are coming back to pass the torch to the next gen? Not sure how I'd feel about that.
Alex Aja's PIRANHA 3-D Shoot Delayed - Sep 11, 2008 - 09:44am
Did I even know this movie was being made? Or did I block it from my memory? Did I miss something joey? Where does it say 3-D boobies?
Whedon's DOLLHOUSE Halts Production for Scripts - Sep 11, 2008 - 09:42am
Well, that's not a good sign. First, he tinkers with the order (supposedly with his blessing this time). Now this. I'm keeping hopes high, since it is Whedon after all, but keeping expectations low because... frankly, it's a genre show on Fox.
Giant Robot Confirmed for TRANSFORMERS 2 - Sep 11, 2008 - 09:40am
Damn, I never get tired of that picture.
I'm with joeybaloney, in that I thought this was an announcement of a crossover with a Johnny Sokko movie. Bummer.
How exactly is it considered "confirmed" when the announcement just came from another fansite? Especially when Bay stated from the beginning that he would be leaking misinformation throughout production?
Arnold Schwarzenegger Caught Meeting Christian Bale - Sep 11, 2008 - 09:35am
If there is anything going on there, I'm guessing that, like in T3, they're just dubbing Ah-nuld's voice in for the scientist or T-800. More likely, though, since a T-800 would probably have minimal, if any, dialogue, I'm guessing that Arnie just dropped by the set because it is a Terminator movie and just wanted to check with Bale to see how it was hanging.
Kilmer Leads Fivesome in THE STEAM EXPERIMENT - Sep 10, 2008 - 08:55am
Steam? You're kidding me. So much for Kilmer's comeback. If he's going to sustain success, he needs to be just a tad more discriminating in his choices. Just my humble opinion.
Six More for Bank Thriller BONE DEEP - Sep 10, 2008 - 08:51am
What happened to the Jumper sequel that Hayden was supposed to be working on? That was a very cool movie with a really bad ending. I was curious to see where they might go in a sequel.
Scorsese's Trio Set to BLACK OUT - Sep 10, 2008 - 08:49am
Long Kiss Goodnight? Sounds like it. But Scorcese at the helm gives me a little hope. Not much. Just a little.
This sounds interesting, and every day there's more big names attached. My curiosity is piqued.
