May 29, 2003... Jim Caviezel has been cast in the sci-fi film FINAL CUT. In the film the actor's character stands against the use of a microchip that can record the total experience of a person's life, and upon death can be removed and edited into a "highlight" reel of that person's life. Robin Williams also stars in the film as a "cutter", one of the people who remove the microchips and assemble the deceased's best moments on video.
Caviezel recently finished his work in Mel Gibson's next film, THE PASSION, in which the actor portrayed Jesus Christ. [Variety.]

June 12, 2003... Variety has confirmed Movies&action=page&obj_id=38859" target="_blank">our report from earlier this week that actress Mira Sorvino has joined the cast of FINAL CUT, the sci-fi picture that begins filming later this month. The trade does reveal Sorvino's character is the girlfriend of the cutter (Robin Williams) who removes the microchips from dead people. The trade also revealed more detail about the movie's story, saying that part of the plot revolves around Williams' character removing the chip implanted in the now-deceased creator of the new technology. Part of the cutter's job is to edit the footage the chip records, removing all the depressing or black moments from one's life. That angers some who oppose the technology and it makes the cutter a target in their eyes. [Variety.]
