FINAL FANTASY Opens Relatively Strong

On its first day of business, Wednesday, FINAL FANTASY: THE SPIRITS WITHIN, did respectable business. Given that it isn't a holiday weekend, Sony was probably looking to get the hardcore fans of the original games to take a break in their usual summer activities to check the film out. That stratagem looks to have been reasonably successful with word that the pic grossed roughly $5M on 2,382 screens on its first.
