Firm Films Reaches Out for HELL HOUSE

Firm Films has picked up the rights to make a film based on the Hell House Outreach. The staged haunted house-like attraction, created by pastor Keenan Roberts, runs through Halloween and its exhibits preach the fire and brimstone conservative values of the evangelical church.

The first hell house may have been created by Jerry Falwell in the late 1970s. Similar events began in several regions during that period. More recently, the concept has been promoted by Pastor Keenan Roberts, originally of Roswell, New Mexico, who started a well-known hell house there in 1992. Since that time, hell houses have become a regular fixture of the Halloween season. Pastor Roberts remains active in what he calls his hell house ministry by providing kits and directions to enable churches to perform their own attractions. He is now the senior pastor of Destiny Church Of The Assemblies Of God where Hell House is still performed each year in the month of October.

A "demon tour guide" escorts groups through a series of rooms, each populated by performers who enact shortcuts to hell. These include a woman having an abortion, two men marrying, a teen overdosing on Ecstasy at a rave and a date rape by a star jock. The finale shows Jesus leading the tour in a prayer for salvation.

The film will center on a Christian group who plans its first Hell House Outreach performance, and how an entire town is impacted as pro-choice and gay-rights groups protest perfs they feel are exclusionary and hateful.

Hmmm, this sounds more like a Hallmark movie of the week. Or better yet, something on Lifetime. Airing on a Tuesday night. At 10pm. In mid January.

Lame, lame, lame, with a side of lame.

"Real people do this!!!"

Yeah, they should just film the real thing. This film will only be shown in churches, if that.

They already did film the real thing, "Hell House" (2001) was a documentary about this very subject. It was pretty good too, the filmmakers did a great job of telling the story without taking either side. There was some seriously creepy stuff in it, creepy in terms of what people believe and the extents they will go to prove it, not in terms of scary performances. It's definitely worth a look, be sure to watch out for the "Satanism Room" complete with a giant, blood-red Star of David.

fishpoop, I haven't seen that docu., although I may keep an eye out for it.

I find this typical of the religious rych. Their narrow mindedness in comparing my sexuality (gay) to Satanist is laughable at best, sad at it's worst.

If anyone saw the news last week, you should remember a story of a teen who kidnapped a younger girl, with the intent of slicing a pentagram into her chest during a ritual. Yeah, that sure ranks up there with finding love with a fellow, adult, human being.

It's insufferable really. The level of stupidity that so many will accept just to avoid having to think for themselves. Just as our current political parties are divided, (intentionally, I'm sure) so few stop to see both sides.

I wonder how, or even if, the human race will survive.
And I'm not sure the good ole' USA will ever make it out of puberty.

I'll have to repair the hole I made in my roof while jumping frantically up and down screaming "NOOOOOO!! NO REMAKES FOR THE LEGEND OF HELL HOUSE!"
ok see, I'm calm now because I read the article.. but jeesh.. dont scare me like that!!

Lachness2k - First, you misspelled "Reich." Secondly, what more does the U.S. need to do to get out of puberty -- divide itself into two territories and call them Sodom and Gammorah? You obviously think you're being oppressed or victimized because a group of people disagrees with your sexuality. Your sexuality has its own parade for crying out loud! Even if the federal government did make it legal for you to marry, what would it change? Just because the Feds tell you you're "okay" doesn't mean everyone else will fall in line and quit disagreeing with you. Do you really think that if the government turned its back on the "religious reich" and caved in to what you wanted that the "reich" wouuld just disappear and you'd be left in peace? The biggest mistake a Christian can make in this country is legislating morality, but that's exactly what you people want to do as well -- you want legislation to justify an activity of yours that others deem immoral, thereby legislating morality, or at least one form of it. As for the stupidity of people who disagree with you and won't think for themselves, what would you have them do? What the hell are they supposed to think about? Letting you do whatever you want? How does pandering to you make anyone more intelligent or enlightened? Do you really think it is constitutional for us to sit back and let you flaunt your sexuality and say whatever you want and then let us be demonized because we don't like homosexual intercourse? Not everyone who dislikes homosexuality goes out and attacks homosexuals, either physically or verbally, yet if you had it your way you would probably deny us the legal right to publicly disagree. Disagreements are a fact of life, and I am no more evil or wrong or "narrowminded" for disliking the idea of homosexual intercourse than you are for being a homosexual. The problem here is that both of us have a right to speak our minds. The differnce is that when you speak your mind, Hollywood, the

The difference is that when you speak your mind, Hollywood, the ACLU and liberals paint you as heroes. When the religious right does it, they're painted as Nazis or something. What sickens me isn't so much your sexuality as it is the way you use it to grab attention and demonize those who disagree with you. In that respect, at least, you're no more different than those you oppose. BRAVO HELL HOUSE!
