Lionsgate has unleashed the first trailer for their next futuristic action fest Gamer courtesy of IGN Movies. You can check it out in the video player below. The film stars Gerard Butler, Michael C. Hall, Alison Lohman, Amber Valletta, Logan Lerman, Kyra Sedgwick, Ludacris, John Leguizamo, Zoe Bell and Terry Crews. The directing duo Mark Neveldine & Brian Taylor (Crank, Crank 2) are behind the camera, based on a script they penned.
Plot Concept: In the not too distant future, Kabel (Gerard Butler), a death row inmate, has unwittingly become a pop culture hero. Every week, millions worldwide tune in online to watch him and hundreds of other convicts battle in Slayers, an ultra-violent multi-player online game invented by technological genius Ken Castle (Michael C. Hall). To the wealthy young gamer who controls his every move, Kable is just a sim (simulation) character. To the resistance group that opposes Castle's games as high-tech slavery, he is a critical element in their battle to take down the inventor. Caught in the crosshairs of two opposing forces and under the command of a teenager's remote device, Kable must use his extraordinary fighting skills to escape the game, bring down Castle and overthrow the system.
Gamer will hit theaters September 4, 2009.
Nothing too original here. Running Man and the recent Death Race come to mind right away. Then again you can't expect too much from the guys behind the Crank films. Still I'll most likely check it out if nothing else for the violence, action and the casdt doesn't seem too bad.
I like Butler, but I have a bad feeling that this film will give real life gamers like myself a bad name.
This looks like an interesting update on the Running Man type of idea (which I've thought would be great for a remake as a miniseries on SCI-FRY). Looking at this trailer I would have hoped for more Sci-fi elements in the game they are forced to play, such as rayguns or robots they had to fight.
Laughing my sick fucking twisted ass off at Xenomorph, because and I quote "I have a feeling that this film will give real life gamers like myself a bad name" you mean unlike the GTA series that you play which has violance and drugs and prostitution and gambling and stealing and senseless killing of innocent people? No, of course not...Oh, don't get me wrong there Xeno, it's a fun game to play but your questioning of this movie giving gamers a bad name and not of the games themself is laughable at best...
Anyways, this is a hybrid movie of said mentioned movies, no doubt about that...

Sounds cool......like running man/death race.......gerard butler yakes good roles... and I hope this makes his action movie status go up......
