The first 'Jonah Hex' footage hits the web. Plus: 'Iron Man 2' reviews, videos and widgets. Evans serious about 'Captain America'. Koepp writing 'Men in Black III'. More! With the plastic eyeballs and the spray-paint vegetables, it's your Comics2Film 10.4.27!

IRON MAN 2 Reviews

Having screened for the press last week and the embargo busted, the floodgates are open on 'Iron Man 2' reviews. So far the reviews are mostly positive (except for one hater), with the consensus (except for one gusher) being that it's as good as the first one.

The Hollywood Reporter - "Well, that didn't take long. Everything fun and terrific about 'Iron Man,' a mere two years ago, has vanished with its sequel. In its place, 'Iron Man 2' has substituted noise, confusion, multiple villains, irrelevant stunts and misguided story lines."

Variety - "'Iron Man 2' isn't as much fun as its predecessor, but by the time the smoke clears, it'll do."

Ain't it Cool - "'Iron Man 2' is comic movie crack!"

Total Film - 3 stars (out of 4) - "A hugely entertaining first act is let down by a lacklustre second in a sequel often more concerned with setting up future Marvel efforts than delivering on its predecessor’s promise."

Motion Captured Blog - "...even without the shock of the new on its side, 'Iron Man 2' works as a blast of pure confidence and charisma, absolutely effective, and I expect audiences are going to devour the film when it reaches theaters May 7th."

C2F Quick Hits

  • Comics writer Andy Diggle talks with Hero Complex about the differences between the movie 'The Losers' and his 32 issue comic series on which it is based.
  • MTV Splash Page got some face time with comics creator Richard Starkings about the planned 'Elephantmen' movie, and how the producers sparked to his message about stem cell research.
  • Hollywood Elsewhere's anonymous sources say what many fans are probably thinking about the plans to retool 'Green Hornet' in 3D. They say the conversion is a smoke screen to allow Sony and Michel Gondry to re-shoot major portions of the movie. "The action sequences don't cut together and [are saddled with comprehension issues]," says the alleged insider.
  • The Hollywood Insider at says actor Will Smith is not yet committed to 'Men in Black III', but sources say he's leaning towards doing the threequel. Presently David Koepp is polishing the screenplay and Sony hopes to go into production on it in the coming months for a summer 2011 release.

Fans know that Chris Evans signed on to play 'Captain America' on the big screen, and the actor tells Screen Star that that is not something he takes lightly.

"It is a big responsibility.  I'm a little scared, to be honest.  I'd be lying if I said anything else, and I have no problem being honest about that.  It's intimidating.  It's a big responsibility and you want to do your best work," Evans said. "I'm not quite sure what else to say.  It was a challenging process for me, trying to decide whether or not to do it.  I came down on the side of going for it because I really think Marvel is doing some great things these days, the script is great and it's going to be a fun character to play.  He's a wonderful character, just as a man, aside from the comic hero background.  If it was just a story about the man, Steve Rogers, I'd be really interested.  He's an incredibly noble, honest, selfless man, and those are qualities that I think people can aspire to and look up to."

Feige Says Hulk Will Be in AVENGERS

Chatting with, Marvel Studios Pres Kevin Feige addressed the question of whether or not Hulk will be in 'The Avengers'  movie.

"We certainly plan on it. He was there in The Avengers #1 and in The Ultimates #1 so certainly the Hulk is a key part of these films leading up to 'The Avengers'. 'Iron Man 2' has some clues to where these timelines take place as they relate to each other. So I certainly think Hulk will be a player on that team."

But what about Ed Norton as Bruce Banner? Feige said that's a function of story demands and also the actor's schedule.

"So we reserve the right to say Hulk will be in it for sure, we'll see about Banner."

Thanks to Wiseguy for the submission.

Directors Dueling over THE BOYS

'A Nightmare on Elm Street' director Samuel Bayer has said in the past that he would live to direct the movie adaptation of Garth Ennis and Darrick Robertson's comic 'The Boys'.  However, he revealed to Film School Rejects that 'Anchorman' and 'Step Brothers' director Adam McKay is actually attached.

"From what I’ve heard from the producers on the movie is that Adam McKay is doing it," Bayer said. However, he's hoping that if 'Nightmare' does well he may be able to persuade the producers to look his way.

IRON MAN 2 Augmented Reality Widget

Want to wear the 'Iron Man 2' armor? Marvel & Paramount released an augmented reality app at that not only lets you see what you'd look like in the latest iteration of the Iron Man/War Machine hardware but it also brings to life the internal HUD (Heads Up Display) through gesture recognition.

C2F took it for a spin this morning. We had to install a plugin and wait for some slow loading flash pages before we got the helmet on over our heads. We couldn't really figure out the HUD controls but somehow we made the helmet disappear and couldn't get it back. Then the browser crashed and we gave up.

Your mileage may vary so check it out. Here's a video showing how it's supposed to work:

Never cared much for Hex, so I have no interest in the movie. The footage doesn't look bad; just not my cup of tea.

I really like what Evans had to say about playing Cap. I think he's going to be terrific, and it looks like he's getting a handle on what makes Cap so special. I'm excited that I only have two more years to wait for a movie I've wanted to see my whole life.

Is there anyone who thinks Green Hornet is going to be good or successful? All the buzz, except for what the studio's puming out, is very negative.

The Avengers doesn't need Banner, just the Hulk. I liked Norton's take on Banner, but I don't need to see anymore of that. All I want to see is Hulk battling with or against The Avengers. I'm in the camp that believes the Hulk will be the quarry of The Avengers, but he won't be the villain of the movie.

Jonah Hex looks like a SYFY original movie. Pass.

1. I think you are right about Hulk Wessmith. It'll be the old Hulk rampaging, Avengers intercede. Hulk smashes Avengers. Avengers discover Hulk is being controlled by “???”. Avengers attack “???”. They are badly beaten but manage to free Hulk. Hulk and Avengers defeat “???” Easter egg plants seed for Avengers II: Electric Boogaloo
2. I’m glad to hear that Evans is taking the role of Cap seriously
3. Not liking those reviews of Iron Man... I’m sure fans will love it but it may not have the appeal as the first beyond the first two weeks.
4. Jonah Hex could be cool. Cant tell too much from the mini trailer though. Looks like it might have a little "steampunk" vibe. That's cool.

Hobbs 4/27/2010 8:14:54 AM

Hex is a Bounty Hunter and at the core is a western so they really shouldn't be able to screw it up.  I can't see the footage cuz I'm at work but seriously, just make a good Western.  The rest will take care of itself.

Reviews seem to be spit on IM2...I would wait for Rotten Tomatoes to get a good idea how good it is or isn't.  I don't like the one review about them setting up future movies...I would hope it would be in a subtle way like they have been doing and not in your face.  No matter what i'm seeing it.

I tend to think Loki will be the bad guy pulling the strings in Avengers. If Hulk and Loki are involved it gives a reason that Thor would join forces with The Avengers who have already been brought together by Nick Fury to prepare for something else. The first movie gets the whole team together and sets up for a second movie where the unified Avengers take on a larger foe.

The reviews for IM2 seem a little tougher than they were for the first film. Does this mean the second film isn't as good or does it just mean the bar was set so high by the first movie that the reviews are expecting too much? From what I've seen I think it's the reviewers expecting a little too much. They want The Godfather II or The Empire Strikes Back. A sequel that good happens once in a generation or two. I think IM2 is going to deliver the goods. If Marvel didn't think the movie was going to be that good they would have released it in converted 3D! ha ha

Hex looks ok, I will wait to pass judgment until I have seen the whole trailer. Green Hornet may actually be as terrible as everyone says it is. The sad part is that if they fix it and it turns out to be a pretty good movie everyone will write it off because of all the bad press. Sony is pretty much to blame for their own mess because they were the ones who signed off on Rogen playing the Hornet and they let Stephen Chow walk, big mistake in my opinion.

pilgram 4/27/2010 8:31:29 AM

Hex reminds me in those quick clips of Wild Wild West. Iorn Man is looking better and better to me. I do have the feel that Marvel is attempting to build all the films in one world. This can be really benificial to the whole package of Marvel Superhero Films. However I dont want to see films in the future that are Iorn Man and Thor Team ups.

FerretJohn 4/27/2010 8:52:54 AM

oh gawd!  I had such high hopes for Hex, but it looks like they've gone gadget happy.  Powered gatlings on a horse, are you kidding me??

monelonmonday 4/27/2010 8:56:20 AM

hex will do ok on HBO ,on iron man i just think yhe bar was set a little high it will be good though,& i think the only reason nobodys respecting the green hornet is nobody takes rogen seriously,i think it will be passable

better that whats expected,
