The first 'Jonah Hex' footage hits the web. Plus: 'Iron Man 2' reviews, videos and widgets. Evans serious about 'Captain America'. Koepp writing 'Men in Black III'. More! With the plastic eyeballs and the spray-paint vegetables, it's your Comics2Film 10.4.27!
Having screened for the press last week and the embargo busted, the floodgates are open on 'Iron Man 2' reviews. So far the reviews are mostly positive (except for one hater), with the consensus (except for one gusher) being that it's as good as the first one.
The Hollywood Reporter - "Well, that didn't take long. Everything fun and terrific about 'Iron Man,' a mere two years ago, has vanished with its sequel. In its place, 'Iron Man 2' has substituted noise, confusion, multiple villains, irrelevant stunts and misguided story lines."
Variety - "'Iron Man 2' isn't as much fun as its predecessor, but by the time the smoke clears, it'll do."
Ain't it Cool - "'Iron Man 2' is comic movie crack!"
Total Film - 3 stars (out of 4) - "A hugely entertaining first act is let down by a lacklustre second in a sequel often more concerned with setting up future Marvel efforts than delivering on its predecessor’s promise."
Motion Captured Blog - "...even without the shock of the new on its side, 'Iron Man 2' works as a blast of pure confidence and charisma, absolutely effective, and I expect audiences are going to devour the film when it reaches theaters May 7th."
The Hollywood Insider at EW.com says actor Will Smith is not yet committed to 'Men in Black III', but sources say he's leaning towards doing the threequel. Presently David Koepp is polishing the screenplay and Sony hopes to go into production on it in the coming months for a summer 2011 release.
Fans know that Chris Evans signed on to play 'Captain America' on the big screen, and the actor tells Screen Star that that is not something he takes lightly.
"It is a big responsibility. I'm a little scared, to be honest. I'd be lying if I said anything else, and I have no problem being honest about that. It's intimidating. It's a big responsibility and you want to do your best work," Evans said. "I'm not quite sure what else to say. It was a challenging process for me, trying to decide whether or not to do it. I came down on the side of going for it because I really think Marvel is doing some great things these days, the script is great and it's going to be a fun character to play. He's a wonderful character, just as a man, aside from the comic hero background. If it was just a story about the man, Steve Rogers, I'd be really interested. He's an incredibly noble, honest, selfless man, and those are qualities that I think people can aspire to and look up to."
Chatting with MovieWeb.com, Marvel Studios Pres Kevin Feige addressed the question of whether or not Hulk will be in 'The Avengers' movie.
"We certainly plan on it. He was there in The Avengers #1 and in The Ultimates #1 so certainly the Hulk is a key part of these films leading up to 'The Avengers'. 'Iron Man 2' has some clues to where these timelines take place as they relate to each other. So I certainly think Hulk will be a player on that team."
But what about Ed Norton as Bruce Banner? Feige said that's a function of story demands and also the actor's schedule.
"So we reserve the right to say Hulk will be in it for sure, we'll see about Banner."
'A Nightmare on Elm Street' director Samuel Bayer has said in the past that he would live to direct the movie adaptation of Garth Ennis and Darrick Robertson's comic 'The Boys'. However, he revealed to Film School Rejects that 'Anchorman' and 'Step Brothers' director Adam McKay is actually attached.
"From what I’ve heard from the producers on the movie is that Adam McKay is doing it," Bayer said. However, he's hoping that if 'Nightmare' does well he may be able to persuade the producers to look his way.
Want to wear the 'Iron Man 2' armor? Marvel & Paramount released an augmented reality app at IAmIronMan2.com that not only lets you see what you'd look like in the latest iteration of the Iron Man/War Machine hardware but it also brings to life the internal HUD (Heads Up Display) through gesture recognition.
C2F took it for a spin this morning. We had to install a plugin and wait for some slow loading flash pages before we got the helmet on over our heads. We couldn't really figure out the HUD controls but somehow we made the helmet disappear and couldn't get it back. Then the browser crashed and we gave up.
Your mileage may vary so check it out. Here's a video showing how it's supposed to work:
Speaking of 'Iron Man 2', which opens in theaters May 7th, here's a cool new clip of the armored Avenger's battle with Whiplash!
