Dreamworks & Burton have pulled together an ensemble cast made up of Johnny Depp, Sacha Baron Cohen, Helena Bonham Carter, Alan Rickman, Laura Michelle Kelly, Timothy Spall and Anthony Stewart Head.

Plot Summary: The story centers on Benjamin Barker alias Sweeney Todd (Johnny Depp), who returns to London after being deported to find out what happened to his wife and child at the hands of Judge Turpin. I bet that a Tim Burton-Johnny Depp interpretation of a great Stephen Sondheim musical looks fantastic. I wouldn't know though, an advertisement for "Embraced By Darkness" is inconveniently covering most of the picture attached to this story.

Anyone else having this problem?

Tim Burton's films can be really good or really bad. There isn't much in between. Will this film be the original Batman or Mars Attacks? We shall soon see.

One thing is for sure... it will be like nothing else on the big screen... Burton always delivers that.

When I first heard about this, I was so stoked. As a huge fan of both Burton and Sondheim, I thought this was a match made in Heaven.

But, I still have a tiny queasy feeling in the pit of my stomach. As a classical singer, I've heard enough sopranos warbling through Green Finch and Linnet Bird to know that Sondheim's genius can be easily unraveled in the wrong hands.

I really do think that Burton's hands are the right ones, and I'm holding out hope that this adaptation of Sondheim's masterpiece will be succesful!

Well, Burton is hit or miss for me. I always have hope and sometimes he can deliver...and sometimes he gives us Planet of the Apes. He seems to do better with this gothic type of material...besides it gives his girlfriend an acting job. Besides, a dark musical...something unique to the screen.

I agree with Cappy...Burton is hit or miss with me as well. He either takes an existing property like Batman and makes it too weird to enjoy, or he makes a brilliant movie like Big Fish...which I love to death.

We'll see with this one. Hopefully, it's another Sleepy Hollow.

I used to be in the hit or miss camp until his "Planet of the Apes" remake. Then I became violently opposed to anything Burton puts on screen. "Apes" freakin' scarred me for life. I couldn't believe that the same guy who did Edward Scissorhands crafted and produced such a C-grade pile of hack doo-doo. I can't imagine ever paying to see his work in the theater again.

Well, if you think about it bernin, its only one flick. Burton has done quite a few and apart from POTA, they all are pretty damn good or at least memorable. I`m looking forward to this.
Who is Burton`s girlfriend anyway?

midas1108 • Aug 13, 2007, 10:56am •
Lisa Marie is his girlfriend (was in several of his movies, like Ed Wood, Mars Attacks, Planet of the Apes, Sleepy Hollow). She doesn't seem to be in the billing on this one though.
