First look at DUSK TILL DAWN
By: Dan WeilandDate: Tuesday, November 20, 2001
Little known fact: They made three, that's right, three FROM DUSK TILL DAWN movies. One would think that would indicate that the first FROM DUSK TILL DAWN was a good movie. I mean, anytime they make a sequel, usually the first movie gained some popularity somewhere along the line. There is a sort of cult following FROM DUSK TILL DAWN series, but I have to believe, for the good of mankind and the integrity of my fellow moviegoers, that nobody honestly likes these movies.
Ok, ok, I'm not a movie critic, but I thought I should set the mood. Now a mere year after the release of the third movie in the series, Dreamcatchers decided that it would be a good idea if someone took a movie with no plot and made it into a game with no plot. You are Seth Gekko, the surviving brother from the vampire massacre in Mexico, and the heat has finally caught up with you. You are in jail, talking to your lawyer, when out of nowhere, the newest inmates reveal themselves as vampires.
Vampires.
Out of nowhere.
Just like the movie!
Great.
It seems to me as though Dreamcatchers tried a little bit too hard with this one. Just about every time a new vampire appears you'll hear a scathing remark from Seth like "I'll Fed Ex you back to Hell!" Oh what harsh words. If I were a vampire I know I would run away. Even the cut scenes get repetitious and interfere with the overall gameplay.
Despite its many flaws, this game really isn't a bad example of an action game. The graphics are fairly well done, and the sound is decent, aside from Seth's constant bombardment of witty repartee.
So check it out if you are one of the cult followers of the movie. It's about the same caliber. The version I played was the final UK release, so there will most likely be some changes when it is released in the US. But unless they completely revamped the game from the UK release, it's not something I'm going to be waiting in line to get.
