Entertainment Tonight went behind-the-scenes of SPEED RACER, providing a first look at Racer X (Matthew Fox). The upcoming adaptation of the popular 60's anime is directed by the Wachowski Bros. and stars Emile Hirsch, Christina Ricci, Matthew Fox, Susan Sarandon, John Goodman, Kick Gurry, Paulie Litt, Roger Allam, Ji Hoon Jung, Melvil Poupaud, Richard Roundtree and Christian Oliver.

Plot Summary: Hurtling down the track, careening around, over and through the competition, Speed Racer (Emile Hirsch) is a natural behind the wheel. Born to race cars, Speed is aggressive, instinctive and, most of all, fearless. His only real competition is the memory of the brother he idolized—the legendary Rex Racer—whose death in a race has left behind a legacy that Speed is driven to fulfill.

Speed is loyal to the family racing business, led by his father, Pops Racer (John Goodman), the designer of Speed's thundering Mach 5. When Speed turns down a lucrative and tempting offer from Royalton Industries, he not only infuriates the company's maniacal owner (Roger Allam) but uncovers a terrible secret—some of the biggest races are being fixed by a handful of ruthless moguls who manipulate the top drivers to boost profits. If Speed won't drive for Royalton, Royalton will see to it that the Mach 5 never crosses another finish line.

The only way for Speed to save his family's business and the sport he loves is to beat Royalton at his own game. With the support of his family and his loyal girlfriend, Trixie (Christina Ricci), Speed teams with his one-time rival—the mysterious Racer X (Matthew Fox)—to win the race that had taken his brother's life: the death-defying, cross-country rally known as The Crucible.

Based on the classic series created by anime pioneer Tatsuo Yoshida, the live-action "Speed Racer" will showcase the kind of revolutionary visual effects and cutting-edge storytelling that have become the benchmarks of the Wachowski brothers' films.

SPEED RACER hits theaters May 9, 2008.

Racer X looks like Ted Kord BLUE BEETLE from a film on UTUBE where The QUESTION finds Ted Kord from another dimension in this dimension after Ted Kord BLUE BEETLE is killed in our dimension. I dont know if that is a fans answer to killing Ted in Infinite Crisis but the BLUE BEETLE suit is black with Blue trim. I know this Spped racer is blue screen but the costumes and suits look a little like Scherwood Schwartz's Batman.

"All I was doing was saving your... BEEEP!" Uh... why is it neccessary to use language that needs to be censored on a show that looks so campy. It's like watching the Brady Bunch and all of the sudden one of the kids blurts out "mother f*****!" Really really seems out of place on this one. But that's just my opinion. Ah well....

Well, I would rather watch a "Speed Racer" movie with alot of cursing than a whole movie of "Trixie, Look Out....ahhhhhh!"....That was horrible....I think this movie is shaping up to be pretty damn cool....bring on a trailer.

I agree with "browbeat". Do we really need to add swearing to a re-make of a cartoon? I know they try to make it 'for the masses' but really, if we're old enough to remember Speed Racer then we should be mature enough to not need swearing in the movie. JD www.moviesfornobodies.com
