First Look: SPARTACUS: WAR OF THE DAMNED

FIRST LOOK AT THE FINAL SEASON

By Robert T. Trate     July 09, 2012
Source: Starz

Join Liam McIntyre and the cast and crew of the STARZ Original Series Spartacus: War of the Damned as they take you on a behind-the-scenes first look at the making of the series’ final season.
Spartacus: War of the Damned, currently in production in New Zealand, takes place following the defeat of Roman commander Gaius Claudius Glaber. Spartacus and his men have amassed major victories against the Romans after the Battle of Vesuvius. These victories have not only forged the legend of Spartacus, but have greatly increased the ranks of the rebellion slaves to more than 30,000. Rome is indeed beginning to tremble at the threat Spartacus now represents.
The Spartacus franchise began its run Friday, January 22, 2010 with “Blood and Sand.” It was followed a year later with the prequel, “Gods of the Arena” (January 21, 2011).  “Vengeance” hit the air on January 27, 2012 and “War of the Damned” is scheduled to air January 2013.
Spartacus: War of the Damned sees the return on Liam McIntyre (Spartacus), Manu Bennett (Crixus), Dustin Clare (Gannicus), Dan Feuerriegel (Agron), Cynthia Addai-Robinson (Naevia) and Ellen Hollman (Saxa). This year, Todd Lasance joins the cast as Gaius Julius Caesar, along with Simon Merrells, who will be playing Marcus Crassus and Anna Hutchison as Laeta.

 Final season? Well that blows.

Can't wait for this. Liam's a pretty average replacement for Andy, but the ensemble really makes this work. Gods of the Arena was a very smart move, because it actually got audiences to care about Gannicus and Crixus - so a new Spartacus didn't have to carry the full load.

I have yet to watch 1 minute of Vengeance. I'm waiting for the blu-ray set to watch it in its entirety,

This totally blows it's the last season.  Budgetary reasons perhaps?

Love this show but really miss Andy's charisma.

There's only but so long they could stretch out the historic events and still make it interesting (i.e., action packed) at the same time. So it makes sense to have this be the last season. I thought Gods of the Arena and Vengeance were already too much padding for what is actually a pretty thin and straight forward historical record. I'm perfectly fine with this being the final season. And so are are the show's producers, apparently.

it totally blows that shows like this last a short while or have 10 episodes a season like GoT, and yet shows like American Idol, Big Brother and Survivor and So You Think You Can Dance are on FOREVER, seemingly 24/7, 365 days a year. Yeah, I know they're cheap to make, but they still absolutely SUCK while shows like Spartacus, Game Of Thrones and Sherlock are AWESOME and you can barely get 10 eps, two or three seasons out of them.

The TV landscape absolutely sucks balls.

The creaters are the ones that decided to end it after 3 seasons.  It is a finite story, and they didn't want to just drag it on.

I have read that the creators are playing around with the idea doing a fictional series in the same style/period, where they have no ties to historical events (even though Sparticus is pretty loose there).  This would give them more freedom in the story.

Hope Ilithyia is back.  Obviously she is a very stunning woman, but she plays such a great bee-otch!  My favorite on the show.

Sad it will be the last season.

I haven't watched a single episode since Andy Whitfield died.  Blood and Sand was just too awesome.

At first Liam McIntyre bothered me, but as the season got into the 3rd or 4th episode I no longer noticed it wasnt Andy Whitfield anymore.
