Gandalf the Grey, Magneto, and now McKellen will play Sherlock Holmes. Sir Ian McKellen Twittered the first photo of himself from the set this week (seen below). Can the master thespian tackle a character that over 70 different actors have tackled before? Of course he can. The only issue is, how long do we have to wait to see it? A Slight Trick of the Mind or Mr. Holmes, it is currently going under two different titles, arrives in 2015.
From BBC America: “The story follows a 93-year-old Sherlock in a retirement cottage in the year 1947, as he’s haunted by an unsolved case from 50 years previously.
The film, which began principal photography last week, is based on a 2005 novel by Mitch Cullin titled A Slight Trick of the Mind, and will co-star Laura Linney as Holmes’ housekeeper. It’s directed by Bill Condon, who previously worked with McKellen on Gods and Monsters and Linney on Kinsey”.
