Blood Blood Blood

By Robert T. Trate     August 23, 2012
Source: Entertainment Weekly

The first images from the Chloë Moretz-led Carrie reboot have been revealed online, and they’re every bit as claret-soaked as you’d imagine they would be.

In fact, there’s a distinct sense of déjà vu all over again here, with Chloë Moretz re-enacting the ‘blood bucket’ scene made famous in Brian De Palma’s 1976 film adap of Stephen King’s novel.

Meanwhile, Julianne Moore goes for terror in a nightie as Carrie’s sinister Bible-bashing mother.

Published in the latest issue of Entertainment Weekly, the images come with handy side-by-side shots from De Palma’s version of Carrie for comparison.

Which doesn’t exactly do the reboot any favours, as the 'compare and contrast' device shows off just how much the reboot resembles De Palma’s still stellar film - at least in the wardrobe sense.

Looks like director Kimberly Peirce (Boys Don’t Cry) and co may have to work a little harder to convince us this particular remake is a good idea.

Nomally I don't mind remakes but this just doesn't pass the smell test.

The original is going to be hard to beat....Sissy Spacek as a wall flower gone wrong, is probably one of the scariest transformations around. Linda Blair doesn't count because she was possessed (and Spacek was just bat-sh*t crazy)

I just noticed King's new plot for his book that continues the story of The Shining sounds an awful like Neil Gaiman's Stardust.  Old people who can live forever by feeding off the "the shine".  Anyway, this is simply a remake that I'm not pumped about.  I can't really see anything new being brought to the table and Carrie.  King has about a hundred plus books out there that would be more worthy.

Meh, no thanks. The original works great, and Spacek was fantastic. No need for a remake.

Okay - I don't get it. Are we supposed to complain when remakes are too close to the originals or when they deviate too far?

Also, how much different can a bucket of blood dumped on somebody look? Let alone somebody in a plain nightgown?
