A year before the ghostface once again slashes his (or her) way into theaters, Dimension Films and Entertainment Weekly have revealed the first teaser poster for Scream 4, which fittingly enough highlights the villain.

Director Wes Craven--who's set to begin shooting in June--sat down with the magazine to discuss the first of a new Scream trilogy revolving around Courteney Cox, David Arquette and Neve Campbell. When asked whether Neve's character Sid is still haunted by the masked killer, here was his assessment.

"There have been 10 years of no Ghostface, but there has been the movie-within-a-movie Stab. We have fun with the idea of endless sequels, or “sequelitis” as Kevin calls it in the script. Sid goes through these three horrendous things, and Stab was based on those horrible things. And then they’ve been taken by a studio and run into the ground in a series of sequels. She has been off by herself and living her own life, and she’s even written a book that has gotten a lot of critical acclaim. She’s kind of put her life back together in the course of these 10 years. But, certainly, there would be no Scream without Ghostface, so she has to confront him again, but now as a woman who has really come out the darkness of her past."

Check out the rest of the interview here.

Scream 4 will hit theaters April 15, 2011.

Life imitates art, oh the irony. I loved the first one and liked the sequels for what they were I guess but I'm just not feeling this.

I've really enjoyed all three of the Scream films, so I'm looking forward to a new one. The first will always be the best because of how unique, revolutionary even, it was for the genre. It'll be interesting to see what happened to the trio in the ten years since we lsat saw them.

Loved the first 3 and will definitely be seeing this one.

I`m glad someone can see the irony in making another Scream movie after so long. The original Scream pretty much reintroduced, reinvigorated and revived the horror movie genre. Because of all the wannabees after it the horror genre kind of died again. Now they are back to do it again.

I am suprised with Scream 4.  You would think that after 10 years without a Scream movie the studios would want to do a reboot or remake.

The poster is nice but that quote about the film is FAIL.  Sequelities?  That's so 90's.  The "Stab" aspect sucked in the films why do they keep bringing that up?  All the rage right now are remakes, thats what they should be using for this sequel.

krathwardroid 4/29/2010 5:11:11 PM

As long as Wes Craven is there, it shouldn't be too much of a problem. I'll watch this one.

Hanso: I agree with the comment you make about playing off the remake aspect and hope they do acknowledge that. And yeah they need to drop the movie-within-a movie deal... that did suck, just like the two sequels.

THe first 2 were good, but part 3 sucked A$$! Until it's actually filmed, this don't mean jack $H!T! Anyone remember the She-Hulk poster from 20 years ago? Same $H!T! Get back to me when it's filmed already!
