And now we have our first trailer for the remake of a cult classic. Paul W.S Anderson's upcoming remake of Death Race (2000 in the old title) and Universal Pictures have premiered the first trailer for their action-thriller. The film stars Jason Statham, Joan Allen, Tyrese Gibson, Ian McShane, Natalie Martinez and Jason Clarke. Anderson directed, based on a screenplay that he penned alongside J.F Lawton.

Plot Summary: Jason Statham leads the cast of an action-thriller set in the post-industrial wasteland of tomorrow, with the world's most brutal sporting event as its backdrop. A penitentiary full of felons has inspired the jailers to create a grisly pastime ripe for lucrative kickbacks. Now, adrenalized inmates, a global audience hungry for televised violence and a spectacular arena come together to form the "Death Race."

Three-time speedway champion Jensen Ames (Statham) is an expert at survival in the harsh landscape that has become our country. Just as he thinks he has turned his life around, the ex-con is framed for a gruesome murder he didn't commit. Forced to don the mask of the mythical driver Frankenstein -- a crowd favorite who seems impossible to kill -- Ames is given an easy choice by Terminal Island's warden (Joan Allen): suit up or rot away in a cell.

His face hidden by a metallic mask, one convict will be put through an insane three-day challenge. Ames must survive a gauntlet of the most vicious criminals in the country's toughest prison to claim the prize of freedom. Driving a monster car outfitted with machine guns, flamethrowers and grenade launchers, one desperate man will destroy anything in his path to win the most twisted spectator sport on Earth.

Death Race will hit theaters Aug. 22, 2008.

Ohh man I hate to sound predictable but from what I get from the trailer is this. He gets his Revenge he goes head to head with the black dude near the End. I cant say who wins but do you really care? we know pretty easily most if not all these dudes buy the farm. I think the only thing going for it is how they die!

Yo that shit looked better than I thought it would, probably cause it had Guns n Roses playing in the trailer. Can't go wrong with Guns man. How many black dude cliche lines do you guys think Tyrese will say? I'm going to go on a limb and say he does 1 for each scene he's in.

Looks like that old Playstation 2 game that kicked ass about 8 years ago that took place all over the world... the 2nd in the franchise was excellent but then it went downhill from there... anyway, this looks worth a matinee. I'll see it for Stratham and Ian McShane (he made Deadwood while it was still on the air - a shame he isn't in anything current full time...).

What? No points for killing pedestrians? No pedestrians since it seems like it's in an arena. Still looking forward to this.
Guns n Roses do get the blood pumping.
I bet both Tyrese and Statham live. Joan Allen has aged gracefully. Still looks very attracrive.

damn it looks good... just put Statham behind the wheel, let him kick some ass in slo-mo, and action..and it has hot prison babes!?!?
darkheart00 6/13/2008 11:30:42 PM
Statham, fast cars, hot prison chicks, machine guns, explosions, fists flying, utter carnage, no coherent story, bad dialogue, bad acting and terrible direction!!! I am so there.

It looks good, i for some reason felt like the "welcome to the jungle" song was... i dunno it felt weird for me to hear it, i love the song but i dunno for me it didnt fit for some reason, maybe cuz i was expecting more of a metal music background, but still very good.
