Plot Summary: An exciting adventure based on the classic Jules Verne novel "Journey to the Center of the Earth," "Journey to the Center of the Earth 3D" stars Brendan Fraser ("Crash," "The Mummy") as a science professor whose untraditional hypotheses have made him the laughing stock of the academic community. But on an expedition in Iceland, he and his nephew stumble upon a major discovery that launches them on a thrilling journey deep beneath the Earth's surface, where they travel through never-before-seen worlds and encounter a variety of unusual creatures. "Journey to the Center of the Earth 3D" is directed by Academy Award-winning visual effects veteran Eric Brevig ("Total Recall," "Pearl Harbor") from a screenplay by Michael Weiss and Jennifer Flackett & Mark Levin. The film is a co-venture between New Line Cinema and Walden Media.

Journey to the Center of the Earth 3D will hit theaters July 11, 2008.

Hopefully this will be a much better remake than the last two made-for-tv versions. I always enjoyed the classic Journey.

Now that looks like pretty damn good flick and in 3-D no doubt...I see another $50 being spent for my son and I to go see this, that's unless the waves of going off and then my son will be surfing and could care less about this movie lol...

I think this will be fairly enjoyable if you see it in 3D in the cinema but other than that it may not be worth it. It will be interesting to see how many DVDs it sells in comparison to other non-3D films.

The first trailer actually was shown with Beowulf and it was in 3D and I thought it looked really cool. The movie looks like fun but the 3D IMHO makes it a must see. I do wonder if this will steal some of the thunder from Land of the Lost. Then again they are due about a year apart.

I'm curious on your thoughts, Maniacs..Because I think about it everytime I write up a news article for this movie.

What do you think of its release date?

You think it will hold up well against Hellboy II and having that as a competition and only a week before Dark Knight?

Let me be the first to predict that this movie will beat HB2 at the b.o. First of all it's a whole lot more family friendly and the 3D aspect is just a little extra incentive.
I like HB, but I don't follow the comic book and I would classify it more of a cult following. Which at the end of the day I don't think it will translate to huge numbers. Now, perhaps the first one created more fans. But IMHO I didn't think it was a great movie so I don't really think it's going to add that much to the fan base. Add to that that going by the trailer the movie seems a bit like the first and I think it all equals to b.o. disappointment. Then again I was wrong once before.
As for studios releasing "tentpole" movies bak to back weekends has been a long running complaint of mine. They should all do themselves a favor and allow at least one week in between without another big budget movie just to maximize their profits. May is another bad example with a big budget movie coming out just about every week. They're only hurting their own bottom lines.

They have my money, my son can pay for his self and I'll pay for the daughter. but not sure where in the midlands (UK) I can see it in 3D.

Just seen the most accurate verson of Journey yet, it was a french kiddies cartoon out of the cheap bin. Not bad.

But will it be released in the UK on that date or will we have to wait a month in we did for Transformers?

It's looks like a lot of fun and a great family movie. I would agree that it will beat Hellboy II (in both opening and overall numbers) if it would have as many theaters. I'd like to know how many theaters will be showing this. Is there a 2D version as well? If not the average per theater will probably beat Hellboy's, but it's overall numbers won't. It looks a little tongue in cheek, but Fraser's good in those finds of films.
