Christopher Mintz-Plasse (recently known as "McLovin" in Superbad) has been cast alongside co-star Michael Sera, Jack Black, Oliver Platt, David Cross, Vinnie Jones and Juno Temple in Judd Apatow's upcoming YEAR ONE, says the Hollywood Reporter. The trade reports that Harold Ramis will direct this Apatow-produced comedy set in biblical times. The production will begin filming in January in New Mexico and Louisiana.

Specific plot details are not known at this time but the report says Platt is in talks to play a platform-shoe-wearing high priest in the comedy, while Jones is on board to play a head palace guard named Sargon. The roles for Jack Black, Michael Cera, Plasse, Cross and Temple are not known.

YEAR ONE will hit theaters June 19, 2009.

Man this has "SUPERBAD" written all over it and I don't mean that in a good way!

how does it have Superbad written all over it?

Oh I see mlauzon. Anyway, I'm looking foward to this film even though I have no idea what it's about. I've enjoyed the previous Apatow work be it directing, writing or producing, since Freaks & Geeks up to Superbad. Speaking of Superbad, they had a sneak peek at a scence from another of their films "Pineapple Express", a weed comedy. Felt kinda weak to me even though it had a couple of funny lines. Looking foward to checking out "Walk Hard" soon.

Lets see. I have liked most of what I have seen from Apatow. I like Jack Black, and usually even watch his stinkers, even when I suspect before hand that they will be bad. I feel the same way about Dave Cross as JB. Mr. Show was awesome. Oliver Platt is a talanted actor who makes the most of all his roles, even the crappy ones, ie. that wrestling movie with Scott Caan and David Arquette. Micheal Sera, good in Arrested Development, good in Superbad. He did some funny stuff on the DVD extras portions of Knocked Up and Superbad. Vinnie Jones made a better transition from pro sports to acting than most atheletes. I think I've only seen 4 films he has been in, and he was above average in all of them. Christopher Mintz-Plasse made his debut in Superbad, and pretty much stole the show, so he is good to go for now. I don't know who Juno Temple is. So I will at least pay attention to this as it gets developed further. Rather than saying it looks like it is going to suck with the limited info I've read about it.

If you like comedy in general but especially the one with crude and low brow humor you have to give anything Apatow makes a chance. I'm up for this. But what's up with Jonah Hill? Couldn't Apatow come up with a part for him? He was the funniest one in Superbad.

This sounds like Aptow doing History of the World Part 1 sso it could be his DOGMA. Im betting the religious freaks make it controversial. I hope Rudd, Rogen and Carrell are in it. Carell needs to make up for that Jesus freak bible propaganda load of shit Evan Almighty. How high was Morgan Freeman when he made that?

Monty Python had to reach out to George Harrison in order to secure funding for Life of Brian. Back then, people criticized and complained that a comedic spin on a biblical setting was a bad idea and would never make money. What we got was genius and the song Bright Side of Life. Apatow and his crew of regulars are quickly becoming (if not already are) this generation's kings of comedy. They consistently deliver low brow humor but with a depth and realism that make it accessible to a wider audience. If they want to make a biblical film I will trust that they will devote the same amount of time and energy to it and the result will be on par with their previous excellent work and it may be this generation's Life of Brian. I will be there in my seat and I have confidence that I will be entertained.

And Ramis, folks! Let's not forget Harold Ramis! I'm betting this will be better than History Of The World (always thought that particular Brooks flick was overrated)! I will be there opening week!

joey, stay off the oscar mayer, History is the best Mel Brooks film, Blazing is great but the inquisition number and "Stand Up philosopher" are genius. Bea Arthur has never been hotter.
