Flickers of FIREFLY movie coming to life

Three websites have leads

It looks like plans for a proposed FIREFLY movie could be inching forward. Firefly Movie.com website discovered that Universal Pictures has quietly added a listing for a project called SERENITY to its Coming Soon section on the studio's website. The domain registry for SerenityMovie.com is held by Universal Pictures.

The SERENITY discovery ties in with an insider scoop reported last week on Firefly Fans, another website that is following the resurrection of Joss Whedon's short-lived show. That report stated on February 17 that the working title for the FIREFLY movie was SERENITY (the name of the crew's vessel) and that the project's first meeting took place in the second week of February.

Another website, this one devoted to following the career of FIREFLY actress Summer Glau, has heard that the movie is slated to commence filming this coming May. If that last report is indeed accurate, an official release from Universal should be happening in the following months.

Universal announced that it had purchased the rights to do a FIREFLY movie last September, and Whedon has already finished writing the screenplay.
