Sony Pictures has released both the second trailer M. Night Shyamalan’s After Earth as well as the International trailer. After watching both I have to wonder, what kind of accents are the Smith’s using?
Plot Concept:Will and Jaden Smith are set to star as a father and son who crash-land on Earth one thousand years after mankind has abandoned the planet. The crash leaves the elder Smith badly injured, and it's up to the boy to find help in what is now a strange and dangerous place.
All Shyamalan and Smith family cynicism aside, this movie looks pretty awesome. I'm excited for it. I just really want to see M. Knight make a great movie again. After 2 sub-par films and then destroying Airbender, it's going to be an uphill battle to win fans back, but I hope he does with this one.
Yeah Bob, I'm not sure what that accent is, other than crap. Almost has a hint of Jamacian in it.
Not a fan at all of M. Night Shama-hack. I like Will Smith enough, but can't stand the kid, so 2 out of 3 against. Guess I'll catch this on HBO sometime.
This new trailer looks great to me! The film is definitely on my must-see list.
Many comment that they hate M Night S (I ain't writin' all that name out!). There are a few occasions for me where I probably won't see a particular director's work. But as I've said many times before, no matter who makes it or what studio backs it, or even who stars in it, my top priority is to have a great movie experience. The story as presented here in the trailers looks like a wonderful idea to me that makes me want to experience it first hand. Yes, I could be being fooled but that's the very, very slight risk you pay for good movie time.
As for the accents, I'm wondering if they are doing an idea I always thing of that is rarely done in futuristic movies. People of white European decent are the minority of world population. A 1000 years from now when this movie takes place humanity will be well "blended" into a more homogenuous skin tone, features and accents. They could be trying to reflect that. In the Star Trek world the captain might come from Iowa, engineer from Scotland, and communications from Africa but they probably won't be the distinct ethnicities they have in the shows and movies.
I would think it's a mix of accents since all earthlings left the planet as I would assume one. Wouldn't really make sense to have a normal accent of any kind. I like that they created this accent. I am hopeful for the movie, it looks good. I love the early Shymalan stuff so I'm hoping he bounces back too.
Notice that they aren't using m. night's name and plastered it all over the trailer. In fact the one I saw yesterday didn't have his name at all. And his name is also not on the teaser poster. Looks like they are trying to focus on the story which is promising.
