Mania Box Office Report: Monsters VS. Zombies

The Ultimate Showdown!

Monsters VS. Zombies is what it came down to in the fourth week in June. Would it be the Pixar’s Prequel or Pitt’s Plagued film? It appears the kiddies won out with a crushing 22 million deficit. Does that make World War Z the loser? No, it fact The Man of Steel dropped 64% at the box office. Yikes. The box champ for another reason is Pixar. Monsters University marks the studios “14th-straight number one debut (a perfect batting average), and it ranks as their second-highest opening ever behind 2010's Toy Story’s 3 ($110.3 million)”, according to Ray Subers of Box Office Mojo.

This week we have another White House in trouble picture with Roland Emmerich’s White House Down. Personally, I am going to spend the weekend checking out those films that I have missed this summer.

MOS is at 398mill worldwide.

I recall some saying it wouldn't even rach 300mil worldwide. All I have to say is "OPEN WIDE"

I may have have to shave 100mill from my prediction of 900 but 400mill in 10 days is pretty damn solid

Didn't catch anything this weekend but I'll make it up over the next few. WWZ remains my main one along with WHD. The Heat I have no desire for at all

Has anyone here seen Now You See Me? Kind of surprised by the numbers it is pulling.

14 straight #1  debuts for Pixar.....that's impressive as hell

WWZ also pulled some magic. Never thought it would rack this much money and beat MOS. After all the bad buzz surrounding the film yet they managed to promote this and change the tide. Somebody at Paramount deserves a big raise or a kiss on the ass

I saw Now You See Me.  It wasn't a perfect film (I had a little trouble with the ending) but it was an extremely fun film to watch.  A group of magician Robin Hoods steal from the rich and give to the poor during very public, media event magic shows.  The police scramble to figure it out.  Very exciting.

I saw Man of Steel on Wednesday.  I really enjoyed it but it had two big flaws for me.  First, the music was so grandiose I found myself chuckling at it during serious scenes.  Second, the stunt casting.  I was watching Laurence Fishburne instead of Perry White, Russel Crowe instead of Jor-El and the guys from SVU and West Wing instead of... whatever characters they were supposed to be playing.  It was very distracting to me.

Might go to see WWZ today.

Saw WWZ last night, I loved it.  May go see it again next week.  Glad it did some good numbers.

@karas1, I didn't like the ending of "Now You See Me" either.  However, when I watched MOS I had the exact opposite reaction to the casting as you did.  And I still believe that Amy Adams stole that movie, great job casting her as Lois Lane.

I agree with Karas.  Now you see me ending was not great but it was ok movie.

Didn't see anything this weekend.

To me it looks like all three of the top movies have done alright. With two big blockbusters, one for kids and one for adults, they were naturally at the top. But MoS still took in alot and is still no. 1 worldwide with $89 mill at the b.o. It still beat out Pixar and a Brad Pitt epic. Everybody did good.

It's been a good summer for flicks so far, enjoyed MOS holes and all, hopefuly the box office numbers leads to a JL movie. Now you see me was a fun flick. Monstars suprised me and lifted my hopes for Finding Dory as this was a prequal not quite on par with Toy Story but heads and shoulders above cars. (still wont sell as much merchandise I admit)

Wise I agree with someone needing to do either a Namor or Aquaman whoever does it first may have a big lead but I think we need WW too.  Is the next Avatar still looking to be a water bassed plot, perhaps that or the next nemo will stir the pot and get someone to realise that the ocean could be done beautifuly and over some great scenes.
