Yeah rover, that's because people are gullable morons who flock to the theater to see remakes of movies that have already been said and done years ago. Hollywood isn't fully at blame for garbage like this. You people keep on paying money to see them, acting like the flicks are something "new and exciting".

At least it only made $12 million. Hopefully next week it'll drop five or six spots down.

"Yeah rover, that's because people are gullable morons who flock to the theater to see remakes of movies that have already been said and done years ago. "

I totally agree with you and yeah, Hollywood isn't totally to blame, but I definitely have to give them like 95% of the credit. Yeah, people are "gullible morons", but if Hollywood changed its tactics on film making, by I don`t know, allowing for something new and groundbreaking instead of the same old, lets remake an old movie, put some new effects and add some hot young actors, formula, we`d get better movies.
I know i`ve made this rant before, but think about it. When the Matrix, came out it was new and ground breaking, as far as movies go. It took the Wachowski bros, a pretty long time to get a studio to listen to them and get it made, which I why, while I think the Weinsteins aren`t the nicest of people, they take chances with new ideas. Sometimes it flops, other times you get , well the Matrix. More of Hollywood needs to do that.
Rant Over
We now return you to your regular broadcast.

I so agree. Hollywood needs to take more risks, that's all there is to it. If it's "too risky", how about just trimming costs to a more realistic level, and not hire actors that pitch a fit if they're not making at least $5 million a flick. ¬_¬

The Lord of the Rings trilogy was considered a seriously high risk to a few other studios before New Line picked it up. Hell, Fox wanted to film all three stories into two movies..... yeah....

Hollywood has been using this "Paint-by-Numbers" for all of their movies this past decade, they're constantly convinced that if it doesn't contain at least a handful of dreadful cliches, people won't go see it.

Funny how we all remmember films like "Matrix" "Six Sense", could it be we like haveing our brains stimulated every now and again?

What a joke. This is why Hollywood continues tapping into the WB for their actors and actresses. They know the movie's going to be a floating turd, but stamp Queen Sarah Michelle Gellar or Clark Kent from Smallville, and it'll turn a profit. Because no matter the quality of the picture the zombie-like fans of these talent-less actors will flock to the theater. This could have been a 2 hour movie about the Smallville kid going grocery shopping and it still would have been No. 1!

The Fog was absolutely horrible! I loved Carpenter's original and really was hoping for a strong remake with a fresh take on the subject, because I love going to see horror movies on the big screen. The Fog was just trash; lousy acting throughout. I can't believe Selma Blair (who I adore and think is a wonderful actress) agreed to do this. She must have needed a paycheck. I'm glad I only paid matinee prices; I only paid $11 for me and my girlfriend instead of $15. Ticket prices keep going up, but the quality in movies is going down quite a bit. I love going to the movies, and not every movie has to be a masterpiece like Raiders of the Last Ark, The Matrix or Sin City, but this year there seem to be more stinkers than usual. Hollywood can't understand why box office receipts are down this year. Dummies like me may go to see most movies just because we love going to the movies, but a lot of people wait to read reviews or get word of mouth from friends, and here just hasn't been much to rave about this year. The other posters here are correct, Hollywood's got to get smarter and greenlight some new ideas.

Let's be a little more realistic why Serenity did not get science fiction/fantasy fans (and there a lot of us) flocking to see the movie. 1) Many people like myself tuned in for the FIREFLY pilot and thought it was kinda cheesy 2) It's advertised as "...from the makers of BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER and ANGEL..." ...well that's enough to scare me off, as I hated both of those tv shows and thought they were equally cheesy. I dunno... maybe SERENITY is a sleeper good movie, but judging it's from the same guy who did BUFFY, ANGEL and that ALIENS: RESURRECTION trainwreck, I'll wait until it comes on cable. Sorry.

p.s. I thought BUFFY and ANGEL were WB creations...

Well at least DOOM is coming out this Friday. AH HA HA HA HA HA HA! Hollywood sucks.

The Firely series is still in the 10 top for genre DVD sales, and I suspect the movie will do well to.

Let's face it, the big screen movie business ain't what it used to be. With home theater systems and DVDs, why in hell would I want to pay $10 to see a genre flick with zeebs all around me trying to prove how brilliant they are by commenting on over little plot point?

I hate going to the theater, especially if the movie has a cult following. You can pretty much bet there will be tools in the audience who will drive you insane. The experience is rarely worth the expense.
