Countdown

Follow The Tone

Welcome to another edition of the Countdown, where the future of gaming often comes from the past. That being said, I wonder when on these next generation consoles that we will begin seeing compilations of the previous systems, or the systems before them. Perhaps a Wii disk with lets say 4-5 N64 games, which would be quite interesting. It seems now though that they have gone the way of digital delivery though, which presents each of the items by themselves. Will we see a collection distributed though? Currently that does not look like it is going to happen, since it is probably more profitable to sell games like Frogger at $4.00 a piece, rather than a collection of those games for $20.00. Hopefully we do get a taste of that stuff soon though, were we could stumble upon a gem that was overlooked for one reason or another. Anyway, let us move along to the games of the week.

AR Tonelico: Melody of Elemia (PS2) - AR Tonelico takes place in the world of Sol Shell, a small world consisting of nothing more than a single floating tower set between a sea of clouds above and plasma below. This RPG will set a new bar for the people over at NIS, when it comes to RPG turn based games. Since I generally love the work they do, I am quickly going to award this game the prestigious Game of the Week award.

MVP 07 NCAA Baseball (PS2) - As another year rolls by, another Baseball game takes the field.

Winning Eleven: Pro Soccer 2007 (PS2 - X-Box 360 - DS) - Of course Baseball can get lonely at times, so why not play this annual soccer game in your down time?

Romance of the 3 Kingdoms XI (PS2) - As another year rolls by, another Romance game seems to be rolled out. Actually it seems like they come out every other year, though they retain mostly the same mechanics. If you enjoy strategy games, you should be in for a treat.

War Rock (PC) - While the game has been in beta for what seems forever, they have moved past it into a full fledge game. Using real life money, you can purchase upgrades, though if you are good enough you can earn them through playing. It is a free game, though you can pay for some of the options. If you are getting bored with Counter Strike, pick this game up immediately.

Sims: Life Stories (PC) - The new expansion will give you the opportunity to play through the life of one of your creations... Just like most of the others.

Diddy Kong Racing (DS) - The follow-up to the Diddy Kong racing game on the N64, now you can enjoy a new adventure on the DS. Different from most racing games, it allows you to fly by plane and drive by kart. Of course there are plenty of toys to keep you in first place, so long as you choose the right time to use them. I figure if you have a DS, and are getting bored with Mario Kart, this should be a good substitution.

Lunar Knights (DS) - Unofficially the fourth in the vampire hunting adventure series Boktai, of course you are going to battle it out with them darn Vampires. Now it seems you can take the game to space, while fighting back the vampiric legion.

On side news, outside of the videogame world, there is a chance for people to go up against Good Charlotte on a game of Gears of War, if they win the contest. Feel free to hit up my blog to find out more information on this. For those that love RPGs, feel free to hit up the game AR Tonelico, which looks fantastic. They even delayed the game to work out many of the errors, so it should be smooth sailing. This is Captain Gordon, signing off.
