I wish he did return, imagine the scene of him and Chewie arriving in the Millenium Falcon, big geek moment.
If Solo is in the movies he would most likely be an elder Statesman or a Military commander, the equivalent of an Admiral.
It's plain and simple, the trio of actors will be in the movies to pass the torch to the next generation.
We're not going to see Han running around shooting people and stuff. He will just be the gruff general, father, etc...All the action will be done by the next generation so I could imagine Disney casting young hip actors as their jedi children. Not sure if they would go with the Jaina/Jacen/Anakin route though since they say it has nothing to do with the books but you never know. Coruscant was first mentioned in Zahn's books and Lucas used that.
Who knows, maybe Ford will get his wish and get killed in the first movie and it will spark off the dark side temptation of the next generation of Skywalkers.

Exactly where is said the books are out? I would love to see this, and I agree, Q-Squared would have been EPIC on film. I don't see the harm of having the three of them in the films as characters. Not everything has to be about youth.
Again, introduce the Solo kids. Anakin, Jacen, Jaina. Jaina becomes the Sword of the Jedi, Jacen eventually becomes the Sith Lord, lots of good stuff.
