I think the cast is great, but I wonder if they're being directed to imitate some of the mannerisms of the original cast. It's hard to imagine Spock, for example, without Leonard Nimoy's characteristic gait.

But I'm more concerned by something even more important, that the director really understands the original concept. Recently they published a picture of the Enterprise apparently being constructed on the ground. This makes as much sense as building an ocean-going vessel in the Sahara Desert. The Enterprise has a lot in common with the International Space Station currently being constructed in orbit. It's natural environment is space. Building it on the ground makes no sense.

Actually that's a common misconception, the Utopia Planitia Shipyards are located in orbit around Mars, however, the original Enterprise dedication plaque states it was constructed at the San Francisco Shipyards, on Earth. Which proves, that the crew of the new movies have done their homework.. so technically, if it was constructed in space they would not be following canon.

Ok I am a Trek"er" and I don't see why it's important where the ship is built. I still think they should do a restart from scratch anyway like the Ultimate line and just improve the bible that is Star Trek.

So she's Chief DiFalco originally played by Shatner's 2nd wife Marcy Lafferty in TMP? She certainly can't be Mr. Kyle...

Ditto what Dazzler said. I'm actually for not bringing any of the original cast back just to have a clean slate. Especially Shatner, as great as he was for the franchise, I think having him do a cameo would a level of goofyness and probably end up making the storyline more convoluted than it needs to be.

Sorry, double post.

Wasn't Janice Rand the transporter chief in TMP, Jfdavis? I thought DiFalco was called to the bridge to take over Ilia's station following her encounter with the probe.

Regardless, to truly keep up with the continuity they would need to cast somebody in the role of Kyle. He was the semi-regular most frequently seen operating the transporter in the absence of Scotty. In the grand scheme of things, however, there are so many better things to worry about regarding this film than whether or not Enterprise was constructed in San Francisco or Earth orbit or who is playing the transporter chief.

WhiteKnight, I was thinking the same thing (regarding Rand). Yes, it would have been nice to see Lt. Kyle in that role...

I can't wait to read the posts on here when the real trailer comes out and the uniforms are completely different, as well as the bridge, the warp engine, the phasers, the haircuts, etc, etc. :)

Change the haircuts??? Are you kidding me??? All the women better have the beehive hair-dos! If they change those that will be an INSULT to everything the original series stood for!
