Sorry, this is a plug for a website called the AfterNet and a book about the website, called Good Cop, Dead Cop.
The AfterNet is a place where the dead can communicate with the living and with each other. If you have any comments about the website as a piece of fiction, please make those comments here, on Cinescape. I'd like to keep the fiction (that the website is not fiction) intact on the website. You might want to read the FAQs and timeline before you make your first post.
Even better, you can read the book at http://www.theAfterNet.net/book/book.html. Good Cop, Dead Cop is a mystery set almost eight years after the discovery of the afterlife. Here's the book jacket blurb:
Nations and religions have faltered or fallen while adjusting to the shocking new reality, but disembodied detective Alex Munroe is just happy to be working again in Denver, the home of the web portal for the dead.
Munroe and his living partner, rookie cop Linda Yamaguchi, find investigating a simple missing person report can become quite complicated when that person is disembodied. And her life is complicated enough. Her dead mother won't leave her alone and she's got a partner who's still touchy about his life before death. But as scary as getting long-distance phone calls can be, their investigation puts Yamaguchi in real danger of joining Munroe on the other side when they uncover a sinister conspiracy to trap and enslave the dead.
Although the book is finished, I'll be starting with the first three chapters and adding one a week -- got to keep the suspense going.
Again, sorry for this shameless plug.
Jennifer
