No Reggie Bush, No Vince Young, Houston is taking Mario Williams as the No. 1 pick, and I think they are making a wise decision myself.

........shocked.

I had assumed they were just using him as leverage.

Unless Mario Williams can run the ball as well as everything else he does, I can't imagine Houston doing anything but sucking for the next few years. Wow.

This is the guy they compare to Julius Peppers, right? Did Peppers single handedly turn around the Panthers, or was there more to it than that? I don't have enough knowledge of the situation in Carolina to comment.

But...god...very very surprising. To me at least. Maybe they'll prove me wrong, but this smells like a mistake, and New Orleans just got a gift dropped in their laps. They either draft Bush, and trade away Deuce, or trade down to get a better draft. Gotta be a lot of smiling faces in NOLA.

Wow.

I saw this last night when I was at the bar, and I just assumed I was drunk. :)

Good player, but what they really needed was to trade down, pick up a bunch of O-Line, and help David Carr survive.

Oh well, just makes the draft that much more interesting.

I'm watching the draft, and the N.Y. Jets really messed up. They think Chad Pennington or Patrick Ramsey are good enough QB's? Not taking Leinart is going to haunt them when Pennington is hurt in the 2nd game, and Ramsey is another Kyle Bolger.

Wow, did you see Vernon Davis's reaction to being drafted by the 49ers? That's a man I would DEFINITELY want on my team!

I am very surprised Lienart didn't end up in Tennessee and that Oakland passed on him also. Now if Arizona can shore up the Oline, they've got the makings of an amazing offense for years to come.

Wow! Buffalo, Oakland AND Detroit all passed on Leinert. That's like three sluts passing up a lady's man at an orgy.

I think Houston screwed up big time. As for New York and Oakland passing on Leinart what the heck are they smoking. I think Arizona and Miami will be very dangerous this upcoming year.

Why has no one selected Chad Jackson or LenDale White yet? those will be impact players.

A QB can't do much when he is on the ground and the Jets lost alot on the O line in this off season I think Chad will be fine this year, he's led the J-E-T-S to the playoffs when he's healthy

I just think the Jets don't have a reliable QB, given recent history. I am a USC fan and have watched Leinart closely for the past 3 years. He's terrific at reading defenses, and that is a real good skill to have in the NFL.

We'll see how this all plays out in the long run.

Watched most of the draft, it was a good draft with a few surprises.

I was most pleased that my Patriots selected Maroney with their first pick, usually they go defensive players early on. But he is a very talented running back, a lot of scouts and top executives ranked him the next best running back after reggie bush. And to top it off, the Pats traded down to get prized receiver Chad Jackson with their 2nd pick.

Great draft for the Raiders, Cardnals, Titans, and the Saints.

I can't believe that Detroit passed up a chance on Leinart in the first round and Lendale White in the second round. WTF? That's why they will be perenial losers and I went out of state for my favorite team. An outside linebacker is a decent pickup for Detroit but why a SS? They have two good safeties right now. Detroit has a solid team and what they need is a star to rally around and give everybody the motivation to succeed. Matt Leinart would have been a great rallying point for the Lions.

I'm a big fan of Miami and that made some good pickups. There secondary is weak so a good CB should help a little bit. They might need more secondary pickups to really improve 'cause quite a few big breaks on passing hurt them. A WR is a good pickup for the team. I'm not sure about getting Daunte Culpepper and getting rid of the two QBs from last year and having two backups with no experience.

Gee, just like Harrington was in '04, and Andre Ware in '91? My mom and I were watching the camera on Leinart during Detroit's pick, and could read his mind: "Not Detroit! Not Detroit! Not Detroit!" The problem is, Detroit fans have been expecting a QB to come in and be the savior of this team for DECADES now, and it ain't gonna happen with a rookie first-round pick, I don't care how good he was in college. Besides, Detroit picked up two decent QBs in McCown and Kitna in the offseason, and they need another QB controversy like they need another hole in the head.

After six years of picking offensive players in the first round--maybe they were stars, but they haven't been leaders--I'm glad to see the Lions go with defense, and guys with reps as hard workers. LB Sims seems like a hard-playing guy, and another SS, one who can play both run and pass, is needed in the new defensive scheme. So I'm not down in the dumps about the Lions top picks--I think they fit in with the new coach's program, and I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt, at least until the first few games of the season.

To be perfectly honest I thought Harrington was a good quarterback and Detroit shouldn't have given up on him. Although in honesty the fans gave up on him before anybody else did. It doesn't bother me that much but I still think Leinart would have been a good pick. I'm sure he was really worried during the beginning of the draft that he'd end up on some really shitty team. I don't think the Lions really need to work much on their defense. Their biggest defensive problem is that they are on the field so much because the offense can't get anything going.

They should have drafted White in the second round and gotten rid of Kevin Jones. He's overrated and can't break any big runs. They can trade away Jones then they could have let White be the backup and gain some experience behind Pinner and Bryson for a year or two. We'll see how things turn out. I'm just glad they didn't draft another WR with their first pick. :D
