Thought I'd start this one up this fine morning.
So. Who are those suits with the nifty ear phones
telling the president how to run things?
What is the connection between last season and this one?
When will the Chinese finally return and wisk Jack away
to some God-forsaken outpost in the middle of nowhere
outside the Mongolian border, making him eat grool once a day
and whipping his back while he pushes a grain millstone
around and around, till by next season, he's all buff with long
hair and he's courted to fights for money,
honing his sword skillz and being awarded food, money
and women for his victories, and then some Mongolian warrior will ask him,
"What is best in life?"
And he'll quickly answer in his best Mongolian dialect, "To crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentation of the women!"
...um. Sorry.
That was Conan the Barbarian.
Nevermind.
Back to Bauerville. :smirk:

An interesting side-note:
I was reading through the last hour of Day four at 24's website,
and it referred to something I hadn't thought of, and should have considered
throughout this season:
This is during Walter Cummings talking to the agent, putting the order
to have him killed-
6:33 A.M.
Cummings speaks to Secret Service Agent Dale Spaulding, who heads to CTU. Cummings explains that, with Jack’s high ranking, he could leak a wealth of information about national security if the Chinese torture him. Spaulding understands the insinuation, and Cummings confirms that this is not coming on order from the President. Any investigation into Jack’s death will be brief and superficial. Cummings does not notice that Novick has overheard his entire conversation.
Though the Chinese may get involved, it is possible they may not come into play during this day since he knows so much.
But what this also reveals is that Mike Novick put the word to Palmer to have him warn Jack of the hit. Isn't it possible to assume Mike Novick also knew Jack was alive too?
Just a couple of points to consider as we watch the rest of day 5 unfold.

Oh, I've got spoilers....no one else seems to care, though. Just wait a few hours and you'll see for yourself.

Yeah, I definitely felt most of the episode was on "slow-burn mode." :ohwell:
But what kept nagging me in the back of my mind was how uncanny
this episode was so close to the release of "United 93".
Even seeing that one guy getting ready to bumrush Jack on the plane
had me feeling a bit awkward, if not uneasy.
From the passengers's POV, who could blame them?
It would be expected nowadays.
But chalk up another Jack Bauer moment when he ripped open the
ceiling of a baggage hold to pull the wiring that controlled the plane's wing!
That was cool, and just a tiny bit contrived.
But you have to let Jack be Jack I guess. :D
But Chloe with the zapper! That was the BEST! :D

Okay, so now I have my first major, major beef with the plotting and writing of "24."
So Jack Bauer, after seeing the SecDef drive off a cliff, after leaving his bleeding lover alone, after sneaking onto a plane, after taking over the plane and messing with the controls, after terrifying the passengers, after getting access into the cockpit, FINALLY recovers the recording so crucial to proving the president is behind everything.
It looks like it's still in the recording device, and Jack's on the phone with Chloe, who's got her CTU4 handy-dandy laptop complete with tazer for annoying drunks who hit on you while you're trying to save the world.
So do you play the damn tape, so that Chloe's miraculous machine can make a backup copy, and send a copy to Karen Hayes, the one person who might protect you from the consequences of hijacking a plane? Noooooooo, that would make too much sense!
I'm sure the next hour, with Jack in physical and legal jeopardy, will be exciting. But not making a backup recording, or explaining why he can't, is just too stupid to be ignored. I'm sure the writers could have found a way to make the last four hours exciting and amazing without making Jack look like a f*cking idiot, because we know Jack is the man! It's just wrong, and I'm peeved about it. The writers will really have to blow me away with the last four hours to make up for this egregious stupidity. :angry

Right on!!! THAT'S what I said!!! :D

Ok, i gotta admit i had the same very reaction.
Dumb dumb dumb ... don't keep it in your pocket, spread it on the airwaves, let Chloe make a backup.
Then i tried to find them excuses.
Like, maybe only the original recording would have an official value.
...
Yeah, i know, moot point.
So yeah, it does feel like a blunder.
And, btw, i'd like to say hi to all of you beautiful Corona people i haven't read for a long time, it's nice to see some familiar faces in the Cinescape crowd
